I am really stoked about the IRC webclient and cannot wait. Hey Pofecker, thanks for the story because it is truly inspirational to someone like me who is extremely amped to just see a click on an ad or whatnot.
 
What a great motivational speech. I haven't achieved the success of your level yet but my fingers are crossed. ;)
 
For those interested in the IRC chat room/channel, keep a few things in mind. I say this as someone who has used IRC back when some of you literally were in diapers. It can be a real crapshoot getting info from the room, and most IRC rooms. 85% of the people listed in the channel are either away or not paying attention to the channel. Of the 15% that are there, 80% will be smartasses and douchebags if you just come in and ask a question. You may find one or two people willing to help. The flip side of this, is that they have been in that channel for a long time and have seen people pop in, ask a question, egt what they wanted and left. Kind of like just "using" the room. You can contribute to the room by being a long-standing member of the room. Even then, you'll still get a ton of smartass responses, but some will respect you more and engage you seriously.

After you've been in the room a while and have helped others and contributed, then your questions/thoughts will get more serious replies.

Note: the things I mention above are the way 99% of ALL irc channels are, not just BHW. And I say this with all due respect, I absolutely love this forum.

Pofecker, you've done something tremendous and inspiring for a lot of users here today. I'm not certain what motivated you to write your post, however, I can say that it's truly amazing to see a real human-being that is just emotional as all of us behind the scenes of BHW. I can completely relate to your story and just wanted to extend my gratitude for being open and honest.

More times often then not, users will scramble to hit the ‘thanks' button whenever anyone of seniority here makes a statement. However, I had no problems doing so after reading your post.

I find it gratifying to know that you're the type of admin that can truly relate to its members. And you've clearly established this with your post.

There's some cold beer in Toronto, Canada if you're ever up this way. You've earned it.

You are a good person and even if you are among the top at BHW, I don't think any one felt the difference... it's because of that great friendly ATTITUDE you always had for the members of this great site. There was another high-ranking person here who showed a lot of attitude problems, but fittingly he is a banned member thankfully. This came to my mind because many times I compared his ways with yours and wondered silently how tiny he was in front of you.

Thanks for posting this amazing story of your life. It is motivating and inspirational and it helped me learn more about the person behind the mask.

So many BHW members recall those terrible times when they had a miserable 9-5 job !

I wish I had even a 9-5 job.

I got into IM because I couldn't get a 9-5 job.

I work as a cashier. Make minimum wage. Get home at about midnight where my underprivileged wife and newborn wait for me.

I've been here for a year and still haven't made a penny since I cant afford $57 for a SB or 77 for AMR etc.

My paycheck barely pays the bills. I stay up at nights trying to find a way to make any money. My marriage is suffering and my wife doesn't believe anymore that I'd make any money with my computer.

Thats called a humble beginning. But I guess it will only count once I do take off with IM.

I dont need a motivation to be honest. My newborn is my biggest motivation. I quit smoking when he was born.

Any REAL ideas to make some little extra cash for me to be able to afford these tools?

Like Pofecker said, most of the "ideas" here are bs.
 
What an inspiring post, It's great to know that we all start in the same spot and there are a lot of rough roads to overcome. A great post like this drives the desire to succeed and never give up.

One thing you mentioned though that I thought what was important is to thank our families for putting up with our meager incomes when we start out, but believe in us enough to stick it out and share our success.

I love this part because I can relate so well to it along with many of the other things you mentioned. It's funny because I get more excited about earning adsense revenues than making $xxxx doing a deal in financial services which is my day job. This post is very inspiring and I truly appreciate your share.
 
This is different motivation for me.

Most posts I read about people being successful just make me "OK, time to make some money." A few hours later, and I'm in stuck-mode again.

But this thread makes me "OK, it's time to work hard and then make some money."

Thanks for this. I love reading the stories of how the successful people got started in this world. And thanks to all of you who left helpful replies, too.

The biggest thing I took away from your post was the importance of getting involved in the community. I've so far been hiding in the shadows, hoping that I can get by. But sadly, it's been a number of months and I haven't made a single dollar and have lost a good amount of money on domains, hosting and products. I'm gonna keep trying, perseverance is key.

Once I make it, I'm going to give back as much as I can to every single person and site who made it possible.
 
It's good to hear that you trying to be open and letting us know 'Who Is He?'
Big cars and huge house is not really important in life (or IM) but big heart does...
Anyway the most important thing is that we are happy with what we have and able to feed our family...

Unlike certain individual who talk loud just to get a good reputation when the fact is that he is still living in his mom's basement.
