i find that queer also, as i thought dhgate cracked down alot on this as ebay partnered up with them :)

with all the places to buy a macbook why in gods name would you chose the chinamens chop shop? Thats just insane $2k is a chunk of coin man i feel bad for your sister i know how it feels to be on the shit end of the stick best of luck to you
i would say the same that was mentioned above keep on paypals ass even if you
have to phone them a few times a day everyday until you get what you want

We are also going to try and return it via registered mail (we have a dhgate dispute open)

I wouldn't advise sending it back. As long as you have it in your possession, you might get it resolved. If you send it back, what's to stop them from saying "What box of bricks?"

Assuming that the transaction was undertaken correctly though DHGate and Escrow (and not directly with the seller) then you may get some if not all of your money back...

DHgate's Escrow service is especially designed for online transaction. You, as a buyer, will pay the seller ONLY when you receive and satisfy with the item.
This value-added service is FREE and is available for all transactions on DHgate.

So, your Sister logging a dispute with DHgate is the way to go for now....

EDIT: Even though your Sister paid with PayPal, the transaction should have been processed by Escrow, on behalf of DHgate. AND, if there's a lesson to be learned it's NOT to sign for goods until you've checked them, ESPECIALLY when sent from CHINA!!

I agree, however, ebay only targets specifically through their system...not offsite dealings. The dhgate vendors know that if it is an ebay customer, they'd better come through with the goods.

If ebay isn't directly violated and brought in as a responsible party, they don't care. I doubt that dhgate concerns themselves because until they burn their rep with ebay directly, it will be simply thrown to the wind.

No customer service/ responsability worth squat in these companies.

Did you pay for shipping insurance. If so you may have a claim with the insurer.

As for Paypal. We had a similar incident with a rather expensive cell phone. The pagackage arrived but their was no cell phone in the box.

I immediately took photographs of the item and packaging. Call the post office and
our local police to file a claim. Next I contacted Paypal and just kept asking for a supervisor until got someone who was prepared to deal with my issue.

Eventually I managed to reach someone who told me what to include in my claim.
Filed the dispute and waited. Paypal eventually agreed with my position they were
not able to recover any money.

Luckily, I had purchased insurance and was able to recover most of the money spent from Canada Post.

Yeah, don't send it back, that's your only evidence.

DHGate are trully CROOKS

No matter how much it's been stressed out, people continue to purchase from them. The most that Dhgate will do is give you a partial refund, and that will "settle" the dispute.

You're not the only one who has been scammed on dhgate. There are hundreds of people who were scammed through them, and there's really not much you can do. They have provided "tracking id" and a "package"....

Sorry to hear that whole fiasco from them. It truly is a learning curve when dealing with them.

:usa:

File a complaint with the international trade commission, posting a product scam complaint. That will get both of your federal governments involved and seriously put a damper on their suppliers looking to rip you or anyone else off.

Research ' international trade commission ' for your country's brand of the department.

Hi, any help that could be provided would be greatly appreciated.

My sister bought a macbook off dhgate.com for $2000AUD, the package arrived yesterday and is full of bricks and foam. We opened a dispute with paypal and dhgate.com (dhgate.com claims to use escrow).

She escalated the paypal claim and it was automatically rejected by paypal claiming that the paypal buyer protection only covers undelivered goods, not item quality. The paypal policies claim that item quality is only covered by purchases on ebay.

My question is:
Is there anything at all I can do?? It's killing me, my sister is so upset she worked really hard for that cash. I don't care how illegal the method is, I need to help her.

All payments where made on this computer with the same ip.

Thankyou for reading! Hope to hear from anyone.

It is a lesson to learn, but it is an expensive lesson. Sorry for what happened.

also had a bad experience with dhgate when one of the member sellers there sent me a fake phone while they assured me it was authentic. i filed a complaint with dhgate immediately so they will hold the money. dhgate holds funds in escrow until the customer confirms the item was received in good order. i never got the money back but i got some revenge because the seller never got paid either. contact dhgate. they still might be able to give you a refund. but they will need you to send the package back to prove you were scammed.

the seller has not been paid through dhgate due to the dispute. It is looking promising though, my sister has been following them up.

We also contacted scamnet, who in turn contacted paypal. A higher representative quoted 'I can't believe someone on the paypal phone service said this is an issue of item quality and not covered.' We were referred to scamnet by the police.

Anyhow no money returned yet, but we are still trying. Thanks heaps for the help guys, I will post here when this is resolved.

peace

This is holy shit. I deal with some chinese website and I always take precaution. I will not buy at the very first time. What I will do is ask them questions and questions, usually more than 5 times to reassure that I am dealing with a legit person. Here is several tips:

1. If they do not answer you at all. Forget it.

2. If they did answer you but only after a week or something. Forget it.

3. If they did answer you, but not your questions. Forget it.

4. If they did not tell the truth (claimed the things as original when it is not). Forget it.

5. If somehow you still get scammed after all above, dispute as soon as possible. They have this system that if you do not dispute after 2 days of the items received, the payment will be released to seller no matter how.

Hope this help to the future buyer.

Damn that's a big blast.. 200 AUD isn't just picked out anywhere... *sigh*

I was about to buy on dhgate but thanks to this thread but i feel sorry at the same time tho..

Go to your local police and swear a statement and have them deliver same to Paypal.
I 100% gurantee that if delivered within reasonable time there will be a refund.

ouch, you know when you see someone get kicked in the balls and it hurts you? thats how i felt when i read this.
For dhgate i always pay with credit card for extra protection. also never spend more than a few hundred dollars per purchase. check the item when it arrived. if youve been ripped refuse delivery, open a dispute or do a charge back.
good luck

I can help you in this, but mine method is somehow blackhat. I can get the person address, every details of him. I will not help you step by step but I will simply tell you how to get the person IP address. after that you can Whois and find whether the IP address was real or proxy, if it is real, then you will contact the ISP then you will get all details of him and call him and tell him, you are coming to kill him...

Good news!
My sister was finally refunded the total amount, this was purely due to the pressure scamnet put on paypal and dhgate. (scamnet is where the police referred us to report internet fraud and is run by the australian government).

I want to thank everyone for their help :) my sister and I appreciate it. I'm amazed at how many great posts where left here, this is the best forum I have ever been a part of. Thanks again everyone!
