I loved the part about over optimization and keyword research. For my it was brilliant so thank you for that.

As far as backlinks go, its all a matter of $$$ OR assets.

i.e - In my day job (seo firm) we promote our costumers in the non-us (i mean none english) market, so each seo firm around here got its own private network and a rape network. the private network goes only to our customers, the rape network goes for article/link exchanges in the hope you'll get a sucker to give you a link from his low-comp client's site or his private network.
No one is selling links down here and we can't risk our client with 'X-hat' techniques so that's all you can do to get good links.

As for the INT market, oh well, just $$ the damn thing. It's really not that hard to rank if you got proper on page and value.


Anyway, thanks for this post, as I said - loved the over optimization part, especially when the situation you said about some random non-optimized article ranking over your optimized one which happens to me a lot.

And BTW, the OP removed the site in his post and you are showing it in your quote. So, I think you should edit your Quote :D

You should open up a service selling creating the base of a authority site... i.e theme, silo structure (categories), few mandator pages (about us, terms, policy), log and plugins. Maybe also provide a list of 50 keywords to target or something, but no blog posts - that is something people can order for themselves from the 100s of services providers on here.

Sell that shit for $100-200.

How do you do competitive research. It terms of:
1) site age
2) domain authority
3) page pagerank
4) other factors if any

Do you think that only autospun articles (content machine or wicked article creator) are bad or high quality manually spun articles (sentence and paragraph level) are bad as well?

True, I just saw a guy ranking #1 for a 15K keyword (EMD + sufix) with their own blog network hosted on different 1$ hostings + gsa articles. Actually he uses spun content created with WAC(I guess) for the GSA blast and still doing very well.

Adding images to your content is good for SEO. It adds a better experience for users and I can't see that Google would penalize you for either adding images, or properly describing them.

The difference between 1 extra keyword in the content by means of alt tag shouldn't matter that much. Its important to get your keywords 5% to 1.5% ... doesn't matter that much if its 1.3% or 1.7% because you happened to add an alt tag.
 
Amazing thread, thanks so much. I only have one question, with the "fancy widget" example. So you're saying that if I have a site based on sunglasses reviews that means I wont rank since I overuse the word sunglasses? ex."gucci sunglasses" "rayban sunglasses" This means that most review sites wont rank.

You should probably do "gucci" "rayban" no need to stuff sunglasses anymore since people will know its a site that sells sunglasses.
