I guess it could be considered a baby version, but for free, I wouldn't say it's as bad as sister says.

Photoshop is like Adidas or Nike, you are paying most of the price for the Brand Name that is supporting the product.
I think it is overpriced, but saying that it does deliver. Haven't personally used Gimp on many occasions, but I do know it is essentially the same thing.. without a few fancy features available in Ps.
All in all, if you want an easy to use interface with endless features that can be used for more detailed/complex designs, i would recommend going for Ps.

It's superb! but if you are not going to use it regularly its expensive. However, you can get a 30 day trial for free if its just for a little job
You can also get it on the adobe creative cloud for $30 a month or something, which is much more reasonable.

No its not.
They turned off the servers that check to see if you have a license, but you still need one.
gimp has no match for PS when compared for features.

photoshop is the best. U will get lot of help in the net for photoshop and plugnins too.
I do agree that Gimp looks same as photoshop but actually when u work its very easy to use photoshop as it is a complete graphic software.

GIMP is OpenSource, and as such tends to be very inefficient compared with Photoshop

People call Gimp the "poor man's" P-shop, but honestly, "poor" should be replaced with "financially conscious and sensible. Gimp can do so much of what Photoshop can do that there's almost zero need for an average person to pay for a graphic design program.
You can do so much more with PS. I know it's a little indimating at first but once you grasp on how to use it, you'll be able to create things you've never thought possible. I used youtube tutorials and udemy videos to get started. It took me about 10-20 hours before realizing that PS is not a hard program to use.

Photoshop beyond doubt. Coupled with In-Design and Illustrator and some graphic river templates anything is possible.
