I do have the money to purchase Photoshop, but I'm not too sure. Is Photoshop actually worth getting? I see Gimp and it looks practically the same as PS, with maybe one or two less features.

IMO photoshop is overpriced piece of sh*t. If Gimp gets the work done for you then go with it.

Gimp is similar, but nothing can truly replace PS, imo. It depends what you're using it for dude.

Here is your Right Answer :) .For 90% of Photos Work, any decent program will do just fine. However, for Professional Graphic Designer, Photographer...et, Photoshop has no Competition

For pretty much everything. I plan to use TTH to learn Photoshop and then try to create as much as I can with it, but that's if I do end up getting it.

Exactly... I messed around with Gimp for a year or so just for making my own banners for CB products or cpa offers that don't provide them in affiliate dashboard. It did the job for what I needed but then I got a free trial for PS and there was quite a difference in the quality.

I suggest you give gimp a try for a few weeks to learn your way around the tools and their capabilities and then get a trial of photoshop and make your decision from there.

As was said... it really depends on what you are trying to do when deciding if it is worth it. I did not continue with PS cause Gimp did a good enough job for my limited needs.

I'm really struggling to decide. For now, I might just stick to GIMP.

There are plugins, filters, styles, and actions that can be
used in Photoshop but will not work in Gimp. So yes, if
you have the money, go with Photoshop.

Happy Designing! :)

I learned graphic design with photoshop in school. I loved working with it, but when it came time to make the purchase for my own computer, the price tag was too high for my budget. So then I tried gimp. Coming from photoshop, I couldn't use gimp. It's similar, but no where in the same ball park at photoshop.

As others have said, it depends on what you're using it for. With the plugins available, and the countless tutorials on different styles and effects that are available, I would consider photoshop the investment you should make. If you're thinking about some day being a professional, what better time than now to invest in learning the tool that will bring you in the business.

I have never found a substitute for photoshop. I love Gimp and I think it's a great open-source effort but photoshop is simply the best.

Have never used Gimp, but have used Adobe Photoshop products extensively over the years and am very satisfied.

I would have to say Photoshop, even though i never used Gimp. I never had to pay for it either... :spy:

My sister says gimp is completely crap like a baby version of PS. (she's on the computer everyday drawing on photoshop)

I have both on my computer, and generally, whenever I don't need to do anything complicated, I use Gimp. Even though I'm pretty good at Photoshop, I think gimp "gets the job done" well enough for me to use it for quick edits.
ALSO, it opens/loads much faster than PS, which, again, for "quick" edits, is a HUGE advantage.

photoshop is worth the money
gimp is awsome and capable of doing alot of actions so it depends on your editing
if your into heavy editing then PS should be your choice

Average job can be done with GIMP but pS is a giant that huge features.
