Think so there is no any alternative for photoshop !! Can try with Corel draw..
Like they other said .. The best is photoshop, if you don't want it :

You dont like photoshop? If I had an advice for you, if you don't like it because it is too complicated, take the time to stick to it and understand it. You will realise how Photoshop is by far the best program for web design.

Photoshop is quite complicated so you can use Corel draw instead of it.

he said that's not gimp. Ick! Honestly gimp sucks balls! Paint shop pro, is even better and yuck to that too! I use both PS and Paint shop Pro and would recommend it only if you totally HATE photoshop...

Illustrator works in vectors and not pixels. It entirely depends on what you're doing.
Print work = Illustrator.
Web/photo clean ups = photoshop
