According to a support rep at HostGator, there are no restrictions on cronjobs for their VPS offering.

What hosting companies do You know of that the script is working fine on and would it be better to get a dedicated box?
It will work fine on most VPS and dedicated hosting servers. It would definitely be better to get a dedicated box, but if the VPS host allows one-minute cron jobs and doesn't have security settings that stop the exec() PHP function, then VPS is fine.

Well I am a newbie here and new at internet marketing but I bought Forum Generator and am excited about this product. It such a deal I couldn't pass it up.

Few questions:
1. I have shared plan in hostgator, can I make use of this?
2. Can I monetize this with adsense? Any risk f getting banned?
3. Can I get indexed in google as the forum will contain mostly duplicate contents.

1. Unfortunately, at this time I wouldn't advise using FG on a HG shared plan. Later this year/early next year we'll be releasing FG 2.0 Light, whose goal it will be to run on shared hosting plans.

2. I've seen FG forums monetized with AdSense without issue, but can't speak to the risk involved directly.

3. These forums will get indexed in Google. Because the content isn't being placed in the same context (i.e. Yahoo! Answers vs a phpBB 3 forum) the duplicate content penalty, which is minor as it is, is minor. Obviously fresh, user-generated content will always perform better, but once spiders get to the forums, they return and they return often.

Thanks for your interest and let me know if you have any other questions.

What is the cheapest dedicated or vps hosting that is ok with forum generator?

What is the cheapest dedicated or vps hosting that is ok with forum generator?
That depends on your technical ability more than anything else. You can get a barebones VPS for ~$20/month that'll run FG perfectly, but it won't include cPanel or any of the other "helper" utilities that a lot of shared hosting companies utilize.

PM me your budget and I'll try and help you track a good one down.

just purchased....dying to see it in action...dont know if i will be able to review as i dont understand much of this :)
Thanks for your purchase! Let me know if you have any questions.

Say if a real member sign ups the forum and posts a topic, will fg automatically give reply to that topic?

And when is the light version going to be released. I'm waiting for it..

FG will continue to reply, but it won't necessarily be directed to the real member.

I'm not sure when the light version is going to be released. After the Referer Guardian launch on Wednesday, my plan is to focus on finding a good core group of FG customers who want to beta test and then decide from there.

My original goal was to have FG 2.0 (light and full) in testing by the end of the year. We'll see, though. I'll definitely post here when I know.
