Hey Stackcash,
I would like to show you some data and correlations I have used to develop my algo, and to help you see that high DA is a GOOD thing for easy keywords.
Fig1:
What this graph shows is average number of backlinks in the top 10 (low to high) vs the difference of DA to PA ( DA - PA = DAPA Difference).
Just to disambiguate this further, my theory was, if av top 10 DA is high and av top 10 PA is low, this will be easier than if the DA was lower with roughly the same PA.
To see if I am correct I ran this against the amount of links in the top 10. And when I did this over a very varied sample (in this case 1700 keywords), it showed a VERY strong correlation.
This showed to me that if the top 10 has a high average DA with a low average PA, it is then likely to be easier. Therefore proving this particular point, high DA is a GOOD thing ONLY when PA is low.
So, to fully varify this fact, I wanted to show this to be the case...

Within my data I also pick out what authority sites are in the top 10, this helps me see what sort of keyword it is, generally speaking, amazon keywords are likely to have.. AMAZON in the top 10
This graph shows the number of DIFFERENT unique authority sites (that is, at least one amazon, at least one ebay, at least one youtube etc etc) vs the average top 10 PA. I chose PA as this is a good measure of overall difficulty.
Once again, very high correlation over a very varied sample. This then verifies that keywords that are dominated with authority sites with high DA are generally EASIER when the # of backlinks is lower or the PA is lower.

That's some interesting data. Thanks for sharing. It definitely backs up your theory that low PA/high DA pages are easy to rank in ecomm serps. Going to have to test this out myself with your keywords and see how it works out over the next 3 months.
As they say, correlation does not equal causation. While you proved the correlation between high DA and low PA, I also take a look at all of the other ranking factors that have been outlined many times over the years. I normally start out by using programs such as TermExplorer, Ubersuggest, SEMrush, and the Google Keyword Planner to get my initial keyword report. Cross referencing different reports from different tools allows me to filter out the garbage, get an idea of which keywords need to be looked into, and allows me to get an idea of what competitors are targeting vs what the market wants.
From there, it's all just manual competitive analysis - checking competitors against common ranking factors. Here are two good lists for ranking factors in 2014:

I normally check out the main culprits first, such as:
- Links to domain
- Links to page
- Keyword in title
- Keyword in URL
- Keyword in headings
- Content Length
- Keyword percentage in the content
- Anchor text and Anchor Text Percentage
- Domain Age
Those basic metrics will usually help me to filter my lists even further down to the point where I have a solid handful of good contenders. From there, I'll dig into the actual domains/pages of the competitors and spot check what they're doing against the lists of ranking factors. I like to see what kind of link diversity and relevancy is happening on each page. Content length, relevancy and freshness play a big part in my decision making.
By the time I'm done with all of that, I'll usually have a few winners with significant local search volume that I can either split test, or use on different sites. Obviously, this is going to be overkill for small niche sites. But, as we've learned over the past 2 years, the way to serious cash is in long-term sites with high value content. This process usually gets me into the top 100 within a month for terms that have local search volume of 5k+. Hasn't failed me yet.

I can't believe people are arguing over the difficulty of keywords. Here's the thing, if OP provides you a keyword with low to medium competition and you see amazon, walmart etc.. on the front page then the reason is because no one is properly targeting that keyword. Google will not show you a blank result or irrelevant results on the first page now would it? What's happening is that google is showing you the best sites it possibly can for that term.
If you do a deeper analysis you will see that those websites although have authority but are not targeting that specific keyword in question. If they are not targeting that keyword, plus they do not have backlinks for the pages that are showing up in the SERPs then how are they hard to beat? I bet with some tiered linking you can easily reach the top 20.
Remember that ardley cannot create a magical keyword that will show you no competition at all, he can only find the lowest competition possible. If you are going for an amazon product than there is no way that you won't see any strong websites selling the same product. The difference is that none of those authority sites are optimizing for that keyword.

I once bought another BST keyword service here on BHW... The seller (whom I don't want to mention here) also had a lot of reviews like yours but when he is to deliver my job, he gave a completely useless keyword. I requested for a revision and he gave another useless keyword... No product, and nothing straight... I didn't ask for a refund and I didn't complain, I just let it be.
