Even most "pro" SEO's dont have keyword competitiveness to a science. They typically just follow the cookie cutter rules. The truly exceptional build there own algorithims based on correlations like you say.

I got my free keyword just in said time frame. Keyword is a product based. Competition is practically none as they have no social signals or back links, only two pages have PR2 on #4 and #5. Other pages have PR 0. Report is nicely done in excel.
Although keyword isn't great for me, I could easily get more keywords around this niche (adword keyword tool) which have similar volume of searches and same CPC.
