Right guys after 2nd week with my poster I've done tons of tests and finally figured out how gumtree works in terms of ghosting etc. This could change in time obviously but for now here's the lowdown:
THINGS THAT CAUSE GHOSTING
KEYWORDS:
Your ads will get ghosted instantly if you use any obscene language and, it seems, they have a list of known BAD urls. If your posts contain these URLs your post gets ghosted too.
USING THE SAME EMAIL ADDRESS AFTER AN AD BEING FLAGGED:
If you post with
[email protected], and the ad gets flagged. The email is dust. Make a new one or use your catchall and move on.
USING THE SAME DOMAIN AFTER SEVERAL FLAGGINGS:
I've found this out this week. I've posted about 8000 ads in total and suddenly all my ads got ghosted. Seems they BLOCK the domain after a while so be sure to stock up on cheap .infos as once a domain is dust move on
SAME PHONE NUMBERS:
They use this every so often as I did a test with 2 ads and found the phone numbers were the only things that matched and the ads were ghosted so use a rotator
IP ADDRESSES:
The obvious one but you can be pretty intense with your ips. I've blasted 400 ads on one ip and some have lasted several days. Some have been flagged and only those individual ones have been removed while the rest have stayed.
THINGS I HAVE FOUND DO NOT CAUSE GHOSTING
Ad titles, I think GT have too many similar titles for them to ghost titles and I haven't seen ANY of my ads ghosted because of titles. Funnily enough ad copies haven't seen to be ghosted either. I think people overestimate just how technologically advanced Gumtree is. Craigslist is like the Burger King of the ad world whereas Gumtree is the Wimpy. I think it'll be a while before GT catches up so milking it just now is the best idea. Guaranteed we'll be seeing captchas soon but even those are fodder for most cracking softwares now. POSTCODE, CITY, NAME, AGE none of these seem to cause ghosting at all.
