People that switched from Windows to Mac

For me, the Windows experience is superior to that of MacOS. I find Windows easier to use, better laid out, and easier to manage, things (usually) just make more sense. The hardware for PCs is vastly more diverse, I can't get a Mac with a touchscreen or pen support, and the iPad OS is significantly more limited than even MacOS. Virtually all my software going back to the beginning of time still works on Windows with little to no fuss, Apple breaks backwards compatibility after a few years and forces users and devs to move onto something newer.

I have macs, I also deal with some professionally at work, I'm not anti-Apple or anything, I just have a preference for Windows over MacOS.

I was issued a MacBook Pro from work back in 2012, didn't really like it but had to use it for app dev, then in 2014 I was issued another MacBook Pro from my new employer in 2014, I still wasn't a fan but this one I had to use all day every day. I was slower than I would have been using a Windows machine especially when trying to sort issues. Then I started my own business, I was on the move a lot, doing lots of work that put a strain on the windows machine I was using it, I started killing windows laptops costing £600 - £1000 approximately every 6 months, I was sick of buying another laptop to replace one that was being repaired by the manufacturer. After 4 - 5 windows laptops, spending more each time, I thought I would try a MacBook Pro, I killed it at the 12 month mark which was good progress but cost twice the amount but the key difference was when I took it to Apple they'd fixed it the next day rather than next month. I kept that laptop running until 2022, when I replaced it with an M1 Max. I agree that the magic mouse suck, I've got one but use my 19 year old logitech instead. So based on my experience, it took me several years to swap but I was a seriously heavy Windows user especially 7 and before.
 
I spent 4k on my macbook and working on it for a year now.

Still do some work and game on PC but for development work, Mac is better.

It has a great screen, with BetterDisplay app brightness can be boosted so you can work in direct sunlight.

Unix env allows you to use same tools and packages you would use on linux.

It charges incredibly fast and battery life is very good.

Never overheats, no noise, never hangs or needs to be rebooted.

Right now I have approx 150 chrome tabs open, no problem with it at all.

It simply works. what i hate is use of docks or hubs if you want to use something with USB.

Magic mouse sucks hard tho, I don't know how much you need to hate yourself to work with it.

Keyboard is good, I would rate it a bit better than logi keys mx mini but not by far, very close.
 
It took me about 5-6 months if I remember correctly to get used to Mac. By "get used to" I mean feel like home.
Even today, 2-3 years later I still ask myself why on earth did I do it.
The truth is that once you are used to an OS, switching is pointless because it makes everything work a lot slower. By the time you got used to it, you can work at the same pace as you used to, but it took you 6 months of working too slow and wanting to punch either Steve Jobs or Bill Gates in the face, and you still can't troubleshoot a problem properly..
 
It could take some people a bit longer than others especially if you use your computer for things other than browsing the internet.
Coming from a large monitor desktop PC to a 13 inch macbook air, it took me almost a year to fully get used to the way it works, since during that time I was still using Windows at my full-time job and only had 2-3 hours a day for my side hustle.

The new core ultra lineup appears to be good when it comes to battery life. I was pretty much sold on M-series Apple when they came out a few years ago, but they have some decent competition now, so I have to look more into it.
 
I used mac for 2 years, the worst 2 years in my working life. If you like to multitask and work FAST, like switching windows, coping/pasting a lot, moving a lot of info, mac sucks really bad. I'm back to Windows on Lenovo and life is good again.

yes Magic Mouse sucks so awkward to use regretting giving away my logitec now.

So I get it, I need to change the way I think using this new operating system but damn it makes everything so much harder. I have used FL Studio for so many years but using it on a Mac makes it feel like I'm using the software for the first time. So even though I spent 2.5k on it I'm kind of using it like the old grandpa who uses his $200 Chromebook to watch YouTube shorts of young Eastern European girls or play Duolingo all day long.

Anyway, my question is - How long did it take you to fully get used to the Macbook, to the point where you stopped using Windows shortcuts and no longer wished you were using Windows like that one person thinking of his ex all the time whilst being in a relationship?

Used Macs since 91'. Bought a couple of windows machines only due to being skint and glad that phase of my life is behind me. Passed on the first Xbox due to Windows constantly crashing. You'll get used to the Mac. The Magic Mouse is lousy though replace with a good logitec.
