People that switched from Windows to Mac

Hey guys,

About a month ago I bought a £2.5k Macbook Pro laptop and donated my old Windows laptop to my mom. I also bought the Magic mouse (Possibly the worst and most expensive mouse I've ever used) and the Keyboard (Extra 200 spent).

Buying these equipments was purely for investing in myself for this year 2024 and not for fun (Maybe a bit for fun) but it's been almost a month and although I've gotten used to it a bit it's still not like me using Windows LYKE AA Boss. I get it different operating systems, different ways of working/thinking. You can't learn Chinese by comparing the grammar to a Latin-derived language because it will just lead to more confusion as it's just... different.

So I get it, I need to change the way I think using this new operating system but damn it makes everything so much harder. I have used FL Studio for so many years but using it on a Mac makes it feel like I'm using the software for the first time. So even though I spent 2.5k on it I'm kind of using it like the old grandpa who uses his $200 Chromebook to watch YouTube shorts of young Eastern European girls or play Duolingo all day long.

Anyway, my question is - How long did it take you to fully get used to the Macbook, to the point where you stopped using Windows shortcuts and no longer wished you were using Windows like that one person thinking of his ex all the time whilst being in a relationship?

It took me a month or two to get 100% used to it, but personally, I liked it using it from the start. Maybe consider using Logic on a Mac since it was built for that, but I understand using FL Studio since you're already experienced with it.
 
That's good to hear, I'll give myself another month then (Not that I have any choice :D ). Hopefully, by that time, I'll be an OSX Wizard.
 
Same - it took me 1-2 months. Have now been a Macbook user for 5 years solid. I had a dual Macbook setup for a while before largely retiring the old one & running a Macbook + another gaming laptop. I hardly use the gaming one now because the Macbook is so much more efficient, that working on 1 laptop is better than dual screening if the second machine is Windows. You'll be completely fine.
 
1-2 months but very useful for working, had a gaming laptop if I don’t want to work that a good deal !

I've mapped some of my shortcuts on my MacBook to make it easier to learn them when I switch from one to the other

It took me a week or so to get habituated to mac. I was already pretty good with linux when I bought my first mac. So, mac's file structure and terminal felt very similar.

The biggest difference for me was the ctrl + c/v vs cmd + c/v. I disabled the stupid natural scrolling thing that comes with macs by default. So, that was not a problem.

As for getting used to workflows, it is pretty much the same on mac as well since I use docker for pretty much all my work stuffs. Personal stuffs, things like notes, pages, calculators etc are pretty easy to use any way.

Yet, literally every powerful windows laptop actually is in the same price range. Heck, the m1 mac mini can take on machines that cost twice as much.

It is ok to not use mac, but please first use it to be able to compare. You know shit about macs. Dont judge.

ps, I have two of those as well. Pretty good for the price and what they can do. I hope you are not expecting it to run some new game or something hahahaha.

Having switched to Macs more than a decade ago and my 2013 Macbook Air still being my most beloved machine, I am using a Raspi 4 for various tasks not requiring decent hardware. VPS RDP, coding, Python scripts. It's a useful and cheap machine but not made for professional use, the hardware shortage of the past was an obvious sign that you can not rely on the platform, Raspberry OS itself is crap.

I use PC for excel sheets and firefox only. I use Windows 8.1 PC presently.
 
I have used a Mac since 2014, and now I bought a Windows Laptop with high performance and, by Mistake, used the Mac Commands :D
In general, you get quickly used to it.
I love Mac, but I wouldn't say I like that it is restricted to many applications. I'm not a Gamer, but Valorant, for example, is impossible to play.
Same with other Applications.
Even the new Firefly Addon for Photoshop is not working on my 3.5k MAC Built-to-Order.

Im not even sure if I want to sell the Mac since it is a Power horse.

It's hard even to sell it, to be honest, but it's blocking me in some way from regular work.
Would not even know how to price it, and it really looks nice :D

Having the same problem switching from linux to openbsd, I eventually went back to linux xD but will dual boot from time to time. Switching to fulltime like that is so hardcore...
 
Still playin with windows.

2 years ago, I did the switch. I eventually sold the back and back to windows.
