Penguin - What works now?

I currently rank sites page one with blog comments only, with highly diversified anchor texts.

It seems like there must be a reason that G just can't devalue all blog comment links.

Just wonder for how long this will work.

The penguin update was completed several weeks ago yet my site was not affected until last Tuesday. (5-22-12) My best keyword had me ranked between position 2-4 on page one of google. Auto insurance Cincinnati. Now I'm no where to be found. I did focus on backlink anchor texts as Auto insurance cincinnati. The percentage is only about 6% compared to my other keywords inks.

What is extremely confusing is that I checked competitors that previously never showed up on the radar and they now are on page 1 of google, but what is almost difficult to grasp is that one of the now page 1 competitors has over 50% of his links auto insurance Cincinnati, and another has significantly more than my 6%!

Any thoughts?

Don't be one-dimensional in your analysis. Look at how often they update content, how much their entire website is surrounded around the main keyword, onpage keyword density, number of backlinks, social signals, etc. There's a lot of speculation of what works and what does not work to help sites. It may also be possible that Google is intentionally shuffling the results to keep the SEO community guessing. With Google's marketshare monopoly, they can afford to toss up some irrelevant searches without concern of people migrating to another search engine.

Their web site is not updated, on the other hand my site is changed on a monthly basis. I'm wondering why I just got hit with the penguin penalty only 5 days ago?

I also notice in my niche that google pushed .gov sites today.
Will see if they will stay there tomorrow also.

It seems like Google put more trust on social media then just a site withou that. But I am sure the most links from social media sites are nofollow but still it's working. Anyone here know any good G plus provider for a website? I don't really want a spammy servuce so if anyone know anything PM me please.

100% Satisfied with BB

Penguin gives worth to Only Unique Content

And Social Media is Must

no-follow links are really not a problem, you still get credit for the link, just no pass of pr juice, but this is ok on social media...

Nice details on how to deal with post-penguin, BB.

There are only two real issues we are facing:
- Negative SEO done by competitors.
- Site owners who saw other sites with inappropriate content/tricks, assuming it was done by BH method, decided to report to G00gle Webmaster.

See Matt Cuntt's statement on encouraging snitches to report to G00gle Webmaster:

Which one is easier: Doing the "safe" SEO work ourselves (based on BB's suggestions) for short-term, or doing the negative SEO rain on competitors(long-term)? That is the question we are asking ourselves.

I can see why some members would think that results from one site aren't enough to see what a new filter from Google is after.

HOWEVER, the whole point was not to state the facts about the inner working of the filter, it was so that we can see the results from one share. Instead of posting BS about how that is not enough, get a better perspective - do your own test with this strategy and share your results.

Some things will change, others wont - the ones that won't change (such as Social Signal I would assume) are the things to focus on with the new strategies.

Having one member give every detail is impossible, but with mutual test there might be something.

I've gone backwards to see what used to work and still works - I did a test with a site that got hit by Penguin, just posting 50 unique articles and most of the pages retained the lost rank so far, some are slowly climbing but still in the top100+ range.

I don't think trying to recover websites is a good idea except for big earning sites since starting a new website gives fresh results for testing, and after finding a good strategy - ranking.

A question to BB: I'm wondering about the G +1s, FB Likes etc, the accounts used to make them, were they established accounts with friends/followers or just accounts with a few pictures and a sole purpose of posting links?

Having a bot that analyzes a profile on facebook for activity and genuinity isn't that hard to code, so Google shouldn't be held back by that, so the quality of the profiles used might affect results as well.

Hi, regarding G+, i insist seller to provide the service through search engines, instead directly to sites. I assume most of the G+ and fb likes will be fake. But there are sites providing service like real users will click likes in your website in exchange. further i suggest not buy in bulk, instead spread it.

This is great info but you didn't really isolate the variables. I'm still not entirely convinced of the social aspects just yet. I'd like to see this same test done but the only variable being tweaked is the social power. Perhaps I'll do this and share it here.

I agree with you nicely explain, in my observation after penguin update ,it?s leaves effect in these areas as well like overuse of exact match domain name, duplicate content, low quality articles and keyword stuffing in both link inbound and outbound.

social signals are important, but they are not the only factor that will rank a site...

To clear up some debate it was Panda that gave authority to Unique Content and Penguin that gave authority to Social Signals - both are of crucial importance in strong competitive niches now a days, however in very low competition niches I've found you can get away with slightly less valuable content and that may just be because Panda is not a constant running filter.

However BB has hit the nail on the head with a hammer here, social signals, social bookmarking, diversity and quality content are important now a days (it's as I outlined in my http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/black-hat-seo/424148-guide-dealing-over-optimization-sky-isnt-falling.html before Panda struck), if you are expecting the same old cheap links everywhere with one keyword blasted over and over again to work you are doing it wrong and will not only NOT see results but will also hurt your rankings.

While one site isn't enough to define what Penguin is, a number of you would do good to listen to BB's helpful advice instead of flaming as I've seen the same results take place on a number of my personal sites and client sites (with the exception of the content case)

yes, but i am using this for backlinking the backlinks and not for direct money sites..

Sorry but I couldn't understand the means of direct money sites.
Is Forex also include in it.

If we will focus on socialbookmarking then please suggest the best number of submission and also tell me may I use my keywords as social bookmarking title.

Thanks

how facebook likes help that i am just a little bit curious?

Because, we do not get any direct backlink from facebook. Previously from note we get backlinks, but now-days-facebook removed that. So how facebook share helps in seo?? I am using rest other social signal like retweets, google plus.
