[Penguin update] How I recovered my position

were all your keywords only 50+?

I have a site that sank for all keywords to 600+ You think my penalty is different to yours?

I think that are introduced a lot of change in google algorithms. Not sure why you are penalized.

Probably you should check your keyword density, if in your site are too many bold text and menu links with keywords etc... If you blasted a ton of links with your keyword and not much diversity probably you will never recover your positions, but I'm not sure. If you got a 600+ penalty you have probably duplicate content.

As I said, this should not work for everyone, just works form me.

How can you tell what size penalty your site has?

Nothing is key anymore. The key is forcing people to use adwords. For this benefit they are pushing down small sites and pushing up very big sites.

I said it many times! It's all about over optimization. On site optimization=keyword density and off site optimization=anchor text variations. Thanks OP.

In to follow progress.

On one of my sites that was hit, I have a menu that repeats my keywords a lot. For example, say my site is about dog training. The menu looks something like this:

dog training tricks
when to begin dog training
5 steps to successful dog training
dog training do's and don't
dog training cheat sheet
dog training can be fun
etc.

Do you think Google is able to tell that those terms are in a separate column and are menu options rather than content keyword spam?

Each of those links goes to a page with keywords in the url, for example:

site.com/dog-training-tricks/

site.com/when-to-begin-dog-training/

etc.

So I can't easily change them without changing the URLs.

I got hit pretty hard. I think it was because of my backlinking methods. I targeted very specific keywords and didn't mix it up much. I'm wondering if there is any fixing that now. I'm almost ready to just switch domains of a few sites.

I dont really think its all about onsite seo. My articles are 100% unique and keyword density is only 1.9%, yet four of my sites were hit by penguin.

Hi, I made a reconsideration request. An automated email tells me there is not a manual penalty. [Update] 5 May Position: #9

Did you do this via the form in Web Master tools, or the specific form they created in google docs after?

Also how did you word your request, and how long was it after that you got that reply?

Thanks

I'm in the same boat.

I've been thinking about changing the URLs, and setting up a redirect from the old to the new and changing my category structure.

dog training tricks
--------------------
how to start training
5 steps on starting training
training cheat sheet

However, this would take some time and I'm a little concerned about doing more harm than good.

Not sure if it's too early to start doing something this drastic?

I've done something similar with my url structure. I'm trying a few things at the moment, as my rankings have bombed.
