Penguin 3.0?

Its a shame that most of you guys seem surprised that your ranking has dropped when some of you openly say that you use guest posting as a form of link building. You can't say Google didn't warn you! STOP buying links! You can obtain seriously decent rankings without purchasing links, it just requires a little more effort.

Am I the only one that noticed a huge jump in rankings? Our client sites for Authority+ and a few of my personal sites I was testing Authority+ packages on flew through the roof.

Just got done giving f0rest00 and a few other members coupons for packages and their sites are back and better than ever.

I personally think that the quality of the websites linking to you is starting to matter more than the amount of links, this was the case before, but now it's more important than ever; also, some social signals from sites like Twitter will definitely help, especially if they increase in velocity day after day, makes it look viral.

That's my input.

It isn't about buying links, it's the quality of the links you are buying. You can buy links that are 100% legit and look completely natural. On the other hand, if you are buying a bunch of half assed blog post on a big shitty "public" network, then it's only a matter of time and there should be no surprise when your site gets nailed. Anyone that is surprised is naive and/or inexperienced with SEO in general. Also, you have to understand that in the majority of niches, acquiring links any other way than building them or buying them is next to impossible.

Lol..did you just join to write that? Great first post.

I have 20 Amazon sites that are in the progress of link building and I made the following observations:

- Pages on the site that had duplicate read more snippets lost 10-30 positions (category pages)
- Pages with Amazon links above the fold dropped 10-30 positions
- Pages with Amazon links above the fold AND read more snippets due to category structure dropped even harder

The pages that weren't affected:

- Pages with 1000 words of content and in the end 5-6 affiliate links

So the amount of affiliate links doesn't seem to matter, the positioning of them seems to matter an awful lot.

One batch of 10 sites had a top 5 list, on 5 of the sites the top 5 list consisted of 100 word descriptions and link out to the Amazon product, the other 5 had the same 100 words description per product but linked out to a larger review on the same money site. Those that didn't link out to Amazon maintained it's positions while the ones that linked to Amazon all dropped 10-30 positions.

So I am pretty sure this is a renewed Panda thing.

No changes for my sites.

Most of them are backed with GSA SER ➜ web 2.0 and video ➜ Money site

But they all have quality content and natural links as well.

No I didn?t ?Just join to write that?. You are completely missing the point, obviously because you are so stuck in SEO from 2 years ago that you refuse to see what you need to be doing now.

Good luck when Penguin hits! I look forward to your angry posts when you?ve been hit.

So what you are basically saying is don't buy links because its bad and google doesn't like it when we do.

Cheers Rand.

Don't fret it, we will complain for a few days, wait for another few weeks to see if the ranking will change, and then go back to the drawing board. That is how we make money, fast and simple. We don't wait for google to rank our site, we do it ourselves!
GTFO if you don't like how things are run here.

Don't worry, a lot of us have authority white hat websites with no seo, and sometimes, this sites get hit.

Oh simmer down, its not a case of how things are run. Clearly I joined a bitter twisted community so scared of change they attack people trying to help them.

I have done a small analyse and here is the result:

Take look at the anchors on domains level. not linked page anchor, I talk about linked domain anchor.
If the site was linked with the raw url the most -> site stayed.
If the site was linked with the raw url 2nd. place and keyword first -> page lost ranking

And additional this is not a domain wide penalty. even if some inner pages or the root domain went down, inner pages can rank, too.

can you confirm?

Matt Cutts, relogin please.

My sites are going crazy, but mostly positive.

For me went from top 10 to no where, its been 3 days the website came back to 7th page today.

seoonsite I suggest you gain some knowledge before spewing utter shit out! Nothing you say makes sense; clearly you have no clue what you are talking about. Yet you are "trying to help" LOL

No more whitehat for me, my sites using expensive, high quality guest posts/press releases/etc all got hit

Press releases have been whacked since about 1.5 years ago. Even the expensive ones from Newswire. Remember, Google wants you to buy adwords, no form of legit promotion is legit unless you are giving Google your money.

Hi guys, I've noticed this thread as I got some traffic from it. IMHO it is gonna be as I wrote in the blogpost - May 23rd. Now I see some sites jumping up and down already, so it looks like the full update is going to roll out within few days. Everything fits to the post that started this thread (cannot paste the link but it is in the 1st post).

It might be the "guest post warnings" that Matt was talking about. Check if you have much guest-posting links.

i had same thoughts.. but once you know how to rank, it will vanish.

I can confirm that I have sites that haven't been hit with a similar ratio.

I've recovered from what I think was a Penguin penalty on one of them last year, by altering the anchor text ratio to more brand/url + removing low quality keyword anchors, and disavowing some auto syndication sites.

And I can confirm that the above site still ranked top for some inner keyword pages even though the main keyword had vanished (and the homepage didn't even rank top for the brand at one point).

Mozcast was at 98 degrees yesterday pretty high in imo LOL
