Penalty for using the same backlink text?

Yes, you should mix it.
But, no, there is no penalty...

Always think like this:
- if there is penalty for any SEO process then you can do that process to competition and get their sites down

And we know that it doesn't work.

Start any promotion with quality links and then after that you can do anything and it will never give any penalty

I think everyone started out thinking that way, but now I wouldn't say that is true anymore.

I do think bad backlinks can affect you, but if you have a history of good, quality backlinks, I think it would take massive amounts to harm you. If you're a new site, then yes, I do think a flood of bad backlinks could knock your rankings down.

You know, I never thought of it that way. Everyone says keyword-rich domains are the way to go, but never explained the logic behind it.
Thanks!

I'm glad you got something out of it! However this is actually a secondary benefit to KW-rich domains. The main one is quite simply that having KW in your domain is a huge relevance sign to Google so makes a massive difference with ranking even before you start worrying about backlinks.

if you just use keyword 90% of the time then, will this be a problem?

IMO, you don't even need to keep the main keyword >50%, and as long as you have very relevant keywords in its place (for that 50%), it can be better.
