penalized site

Close and forget. With a bit of luck you could resell it.

Forward to a competitor or someone you don't like. Its pretty cool, their site drops like hell. I have done this a few times.

Haha. Would love that. Especially because I bet it was a competitor giving me a mere of great "buy viagra / escort girls / steroids" links. But too bad its the company's site :(

Best thing to do is to close it and start from scratch.

I don't believe in recovery, its not possible, not a manual penalty. Forward to a Youtube vid penalty Will not pass! Its the only site though that works that way.

Hate to break the bad news to you guys but recovering from a manual penalty isn't hard and people do it all the time. Based on the responses here I'm shocked how many people are just giving up on their penalized sites. Crazy.

I tried yes and recovered. I talked with Google, even about getting a job there lol. I got a few domains back but the ranking is shot to hell. Not really recovered. I even recovered from a PURE SPAM penalty. Matt Cutts sends you a custom video. The rankings do not comeback. I doubt that they ever could.

You have a big task ahead here, I have never had much luck recovering from a penalty but depending on how much link building was put in to achieve the penalty you may or may not be best off starting a new domain. It may even be best practice to get someone to perform some re-writes on your content just to be sure nothing is linked over from one site to another. Just my two cents, alot of advice from experts in here which may yield better results.

Its not easy to recover from a penalty, if you try 301 google will hit the new domain also. Better to leave it behind and move forward with a new one

Don't do 301 as it will pass on the penalty as well. Just drop the domain & start with a new one.
I completely agree with you mate. Using 301 redirection means, you get both the bot as well as user will come to the new site. So better you drop your old domain and start doing with new one.

Just buy a new domain and forget about your penalized website,
You don't want to 301 redirect your penalized website to your new website. It will pass the penalization on your new website if you do that.

Penalized domains are still very useful, forward to Youtube. There is no penalty carried over. Just ranks the video. Its the only site that I know of though.

Currently having the same issue - point is that the site is way to valuable to just "shut it down" and create a new one. It's for an offline business and has plenty of other traffic sources. I still would like to try to get it back ranking.

Got the classic 'Unnatural links to your site—impacts links

' message in the webmaster tools. Now the thing is, analysing 14K of Links - how would someone do that in the most efficient way?

Anyone has maybe experience with LinkDetox?

EDIT: Found some reviews here abt LinkDetox but first trying the free trial of LinkSearchTools. Happy to hear any further suggestions on how to approach this.

LinkDetox won't help you with unnatural links penalty at all, they are a disavow report generator. The sad part is that it's not even helpful for that either as their algorithms misclassify links all the time. You cannot remove a manual penalty by submitting links to disavow tool, you have to remove links.

If you need to remove an unnatural link penalty you'll want to use linkdelete.com, they helped me remove a penalty in less than ~60 days. Their backlink audits also included close to 10,000 links that linkdetox didn't even pick up.

Holy crap people. If you guys are just tossing domains that have any real *** work done because you got a penalty atleast give away the domain to someone else that knows how to recover rankings.

I've always been able to recover from a manual penalty to nearly the same rankings and I've been through quite a few because I'm very aggressive with my link building. Here's one that just had it's penalty removed a few days ago.

Throwing away domains over a manual penalty is just dumb. It's like getting put on timeout as a kid and instead of sucking it up and waiting a bit you decide to jump off a cliff and kill yourself.

I just found out from linkdelete service that my site has at least 32 toxic backlinks. Couldnt i just deindex them with the google deindexing tool? I dont want to give up yet since ive put so much effort into it.
