it's actually more powerful than guest posting because - initially - guest posts have zero authority, whereas PBNs (well, the quality ones) inherit a good chunk of the authority of the homepage they're on and this translates into almost instant rankings if the right conditions are met (number of PBNs, niche + keywords, quality of the site you're trying to rank, etc)

Yes thats true, was just stating that in context guest posting is just like a PBN.
The difference being you control the PBN and stats.
I have my own that I've spent £60k on, it's the only thing I use for my retail business.

Yes, it's still working, but it definitely depends on how you’re using them and the quality of your sources! If the website you’re working on is highly valuable to you and you have the budget, I recommend building your own PBN, even a small one with just 5–10 websites.
A high-quality, well-maintained PBN will deliver much better results than relying on 100 spammy sites

As long as the 'P' in the PBN you're using really stands for 'Private' then yes they are still very viable link sources. The best PBNs offer sites that look like (or really are) legit business entities in their own right. If you choose a PBN that is just a load of Generatepress-powered sites built on expired domains posting content in every niche under the sun, you probably won't get much value.

My advice would be to avoid the majority of PBN's here on BHW - if directing straight to money site.
You want a premium PBN with very low OBL and a link to the article from the homepage.
You can create a small scale PBN like this yourself if you have a little time & a reasonable budget.
You'll want do brush up on your knowledge by reading guides and threads here on BHW before jumping in.

Yes, PBN links still work, but they come with risks Google actively devalues or penalizes them if detected. Use them cautiously.
