How long on average does it take for a pbn link to take effect? What are the ranges you've seen?
I'll leave that for another thread as we've actually carried out tests for this. However, sometimes as quick as 2 weeks and sometimes it has taken a few months.
Both. Register the aged domain, build out your site and let the entire site sette for a bit.

From what you've said, sounds good.. I'd begin with a small # of PBN links and take it from there.

Super great post especially for people who are new to SEO.
Many of times especially in this generation, people are getting impatient. (i myself am a victim of this). They do a couple of right things and expect immediate instant gratification. If is so easy to crush a 3 year old competition who has being doing SEO regularly, i think the web will be in a greater chaos.
SEO is definitely a long term race, is what matters at the end, not where you start. If you want immediate gratification go for PPC ads, simple as that.

For sure. I think the problem is most people are still trapped in 2013, expecting to dominate niches in a few weeks. Not really the case anymore. Need to be planning long-term if you want your SEO efforts to be successful. Gone are the days where you can hit #1 for all your keywords in a few weeks using a couple PBN links. SEO is both science and art - people need to take it seriously if they want it to work.

Yes, but make sure you’re 100% certain the domain is clean.

I assume if a site is no.1 or at least top 3 for its brand/domain keyword then that means its not penalised? Eg domain bluewidget.com and its top 3 for blue widget or bluewidget means its fine?
