Paypal steals $1k from me - Guy claims "unauthorized" transaction.

These "unathorized" transactions are especially great, when you sell a domain or a website, and the guy tells Paypal a day after he received all of the files/domain, that it was an unathorized payment...

Gaypal is a part of egay that makes me hate them even more.

that is why as soon as the money hits your acct you should transfer it to your bank acct.

i hate Paypal , they are simply dumb there thats all i have to say

Isn't there this system where you have to prove this was an unauthorized transaction?

This is just too easy to exploit if there's no human screening these things, and giving the seller an option to protect himself.

Well, if you sold a real product, and shipped the item, and you can provide a tracking number for the shipped item, than you can keep the money. Otherwise I don't know how one could win a paypal dispute where the buyer want's to get his money back that he paid for a digital product/service.

A few months ago an ad agency contacted me asking about placement of a banner on behalf of their client. We agreed to a price, and I invoiced the ad agency via Paypal then sent an agreement detailing what sized banner and the date it would go up on my site by email.

They contacted me back saying they had used the wrong Paypal email and could i send to another one. Invoiced again. Next they came back saying Paypal wasn't allowing them to pay by credit card. I suggested they mail me a cashier's check. That wasn't acceptable. Anyway, long story short, they found a way to pay the Paypal invoice using "the client's" credit card.

After about 2 weeks of the banner running on my site, Paypal sent me notice that the charge was being disputed as unauthorized and they took the money back.

I took them to task on it, contacted the ad agencyn who were shocked to find out "the client" had pulled this stunt and promised to look into it.

I had a long email trail of me going back and forth with them negotiating the price and size of banner, an emailed screen shot of the banner onsite once I added it, and of me telling them to advise the client what name would appear on his credit card statement.

I submitted all of this to Paypal. It took them 6 months to give me my money back but at least I was able to get it back.

You can't be too careful, everyone's trying to get over. If it wasn't for the email trail, I'd be SOL for that payment!

What other option do we have for online payments besides Paypal that's any better though?

I withdraw my funds on paypal every day. If it's I busy day, I withdraw them twice a day. NEVER leave any money in your paypal account, never ever!

It's totally ridiculous that they allow my money to be stolen or sometimes freeze my account, even after all those tenthousands of dollars of transaction fees they took from me. I mean, what the heck are those for if not to ensure secure payments and risk-free transactions?

Allnightlong, how are you withdrawing the funds from your account, are you using your bank account which takes 3-4 days or do you have that debit card that you take out the money to your bank account or through the atm. I agree this is the best thing to do as your money can't be taken if there's none in your paypal. Also, w/w if your using a bank account to withdraw the money and someone does a chargeback when you have no money in your paypal would that amount be requested back from the bank account tied to the account?

yes, I am using my bank account. Although it takes 3-4 workdays to get my money, they seem to categorize the money as withdrawn instantly, so I never had any amount that I had already withdrawn reversed. Also, after I recieve the money, I instantly transfer it to another bank account that is not tied to the paypal account.

As I mostly deal with european customers, credit card chargebacks are usually not happening. However, if the customer tries to get his money back via paypal (instead of contacting me for a refund), they mostly get it if it's a small amount (<$100) because I've just got that much left in the account before the next withdrawal.
Either I never had a case where someone tried to charge back more money than I had left in my PP account or I just didn't realize, because the transaction failed on their side and I didn't get any notification?

this is why a lot of people use clickbank! they are much much harder to get a refund from, and have a built in affiliate system. even though they cost you $$ to set up a product and take a bigger fee...in the end it may be worth it.

e-junkie is a good bet, as THEY are delivering you product! so you have them to fall back on if someone pulls the "I never got my download"...e-junkie can provide the logs to show that the link WAS used.

for smaller stuff, it is hard to beat PayPal. I have a checking account and a money market account for my business. the checking account is connected to PayPal, and the Money Market is NOT connected to the checking. so I just dump my $$ into the checking, and as soon as it is 'free'...move it over to my MMarket. so IF PayPal ever makes a grab for $$ ??? there is never more than 2-3 hundred in the account.

in the end you have to take some of this crap! think about it...you get a product with PLR of MRR for what $37->$97 and (re)sell it 200-500 times! is it the end of the world if 1-2% pull this, and you give a refund?

for some of these BIG payments that people are talking about? I would look into a proper 'Vendor' account and process the payment yourself.

Are you kidding me? "hard to get a refund from clickbank" :D LOL. Basically you contact Clickbank through their contact form, you tell them that the product wasn't something that you expected and you'd like a refund. A day or two later you'll get your refund. Yeah, getting a refund through Clickbank is "that hard".

about E-Junkie: Paypal doesn't care whether the buyer received the download link or not. If the buyer asks for a chargeback through his credit card company than he'll get his money back, because Paypal can't fuck with credit card companies. That would be the end of Paypal. Btw people don't usually tell Paypal that they never got the download link. They usually ask for a refund, and that's all.

I hear the people that say "withdrawal" immediately. However, if you run a business with tons of paypal transactions - they will just take the money from your balance anyway, even if you do withdrawal it.

So lets say you got a $500 payment - spent two hundred of it within the first five minutes of getting that payment - and the next day some asshat posts an unauthorized transaction - your paypal balance would be NEGATIVE $200!

Talk about FUCKING YOU. Paypal is a fucking joke.

Been there - done that. No longer use PayPal. I now have a merchant account.

BUT you can still get hit with chargebacks up to 6-8 weeks after the event because the scammer used someone else's details. I put it down as one of the risks of selling over the net and move on.

If I'm selling an ebook or similar I'm not really out anything - but I am a trifle upset :spank:

I lost about $2500 once. I never paid it back and Paypal never came after me. I opened a new bank account and closed the one that was tied to my PP account. Then I opened up another PP account and tied it to my new bank account.

Paypal sucks for sellers. I think its because all a buyer has to do is dispute the charge with their bank, Visa or Mastercard and they will get their money back and Paypal is left holding the bag. Well, of course they won't stand for losing money, so they will take it from your account. It is a very good idea to NOT leave money sitting in your PP account.

Yeah paypal sucks incredible ass. I'm looking into a good third party processors at the moment.

I sold a code on ebay from a WoW card and they paid, payment cleared so I thought all was fine so I emailed them the code like they asked, a few days later I see my paypal account with -500 balance and a dispute saying unauthorized claim... I sold it for 750, took 500 out instantly but 250 was lost and now I have -500 balance. I'm REALLY pissed at paypal for ignoring the information I sent them (even told them about other ebay sellers asking me if I was being scammed as well...)
Can I just take off my credit card from paypal and never pay the stupid 500 and keep the 500 I withdrew? Please help!

Greetings All!

I not heard the name 2checkout.com mentioned in this thread:

2Checkout.com is the authorized reseller for over 1.6 million tangible or digital products and services. Web businesses (suppliers/vendors) agree to sell their goods and services to 2CO for immediate resale.

The supplier status you obtain through 2CO permits you to access a larger market. The potential customer responds to marketing, visits your site and has the additional reassurance of knowing their purchase is backed by 2CO ? a US-based business with years of e-commerce experience.

2CO provides you with a customizable transaction interface, multi-level customer service interaction and a satisfaction survey system that is completely voluntary and, in most cases, customer initiated. Add an online transaction processing system that integrates the most up-to-date security features available with a profitable commission payment and you establish a competitive business.

You can sell goods, services, and e-products, just about anything online!

looks like no full proof online payment solution here, one of the way to deal with buyers is to deal only with verified paypal shipping address, thus chances of resolution if occurred will run more favorable to the seller..keep those shipping documents though

Although it is weird but it happened to me.

At some point of time, I was selling services.
Almost everyday I use to receive payments
through paypal ranging from 50-100 bucks
transaction.

One fine day - I got like 13 disputes. And
since I already withdrew all my money, PP
froze my account and asked me to send
them that amount of $$ to reinstate the
account.

I simply shot them a call. and told them, that
all the buyers received their stuff, and since
they were INTANGIBLE stuff, i cant prove that
they received it.

After 2 days my account got restored and
a representative wrote me an apology email etc.

All the disputes were cleared. No negative balance
nothing.

Calling paypal guys work for sellers.
