Guilt by association is frustrating, yes, especially when one has no intent whatsoever of trying to game PayPal. But PayPal cannot statistically calculate intent, what it can statistically calculate are potentialities and likelihoods of future terms violations via associations. It is no mere coincidence, for example, that a Blackhat forum is packed to the rafters with "PayPal is the devil incarnate" threads: simple participation in this forum would likely place the lot of us, ipso facto, towards the extreme end of PayPal's risk continuum.

Incorrect. I was a legitimate web developer conducting business through a website and with multiple clients. I used my real address, soc number, and everything. I did things absolutely perfect and they banned me years later. If you can see things from Paypal's side, then I think you're kind of a moron. I do not normally speak that way to members because it is unprofessional, however, it seems that's what it is looking like. Good luck with your stuff man and believing in corporations that basically rob people of their money.

They are just as bad if not worse. At least with Paypal you can actually talk to someone. Google checkout up and closed my account with nothing but a form letter email stating possible reasons for closure. They kept the $300 in sales I had in the account and didn't give it to me.

I couldn't find a phone number for them at the time (2 years ago) and I could only send them emails. I never received anything back except more form letters that told me nothing about why. I never did find out why. My only assumption is that it was because some a-hole scammer kept trying to buy stuff from me with stolen credit cards.

I understand that you're not trying to read what I'm typing, so I'll approach this in a different way: I am not defending PayPal or the merits of their decision in your, OP's or anyone elses particular situation. I believe what you're saying; everyone on the forum probably believes what you're saying; and I'm damn sure everyone who has had a situation at all similar to yours believes, without question, what you're saying. I have, however, already addressed this directly as well as by implication: You -- regardless of whether or not you had any intent on violating PayPal's ToS -- were found guilty by association with you're buddy that was banned.

In the event that your story is 100% true, yes, it is a ridiculous reason to have banned you. What it is not is a 'scam' or 'illegitimate' or 'theft' or 'robbery' etc etc. "Legitimate" simply means "legal." When one agrees to PayPal's ToS, one is agreeing contractually to bans/holds for which PayPal does not have to even provide a reason. For PayPal to be technically scamming, robbing, thieving people, they would have to be in clear and present violation of, 1.) their own ToS, and 2.) applicable laws, up to and including ones that override segments of their ToS in the specific instances in which they override them.

This is not what is happening.

That people feel scammed, feel robbed, feel taken advantage of in these situations is in no reasonable, demonstrable way indicative that they actually -- definitively -- were.


The irony of these threads is that in 99% of them, the starters of, or participants in them usually state the very reason why they were banned or are undergoing a temp. hold of funds, and then treat that reason as if it were an incidental, when it is anything but from an objective viewpoint. It is, in my opinion, the stuff of clowns and fodder for comedic response when people get so pissed-off about something that all capacity for objective reasoning deteriorates and they can't see the proverbial forest for the trees. Almost invariably resulting in the un-artistic calling of others "moron" soon followed by some or another permutation of "the evil corporation" rhetoric.

What a joke that is. Some guy scammed me by selling me a fake account. So i filed a dispute. Paypal never asked me for my side of the story, there was no where I could upload documents or anything. After 45 days of waiting I get a canned message saying that they favored with the seller because they do not handle disputes over virtual goods.

Worst way to handle fraud ever.

Wrong, I just got my account permanently suspended and my business account has been open since 1999 with no problems until recently which are resolved but paypal still suspended the account.
