Paypal balance negative, can they track me down?

Hello bhw, so I've got a little paypal issue with a transaction that I did over a month ago. I sold someone 2 laptops over a month ago and the buyer did a chargeback bringing my paypal account into the negative. I really don't know how paypal expects me to pay them this money back after the buyer has gotten them already but is now trying to scam me. So for this reason I cannot afford to lose this money. Can paypal track me down in any way? My ssn nor id is not associated to my paypal account but it was attached to my real bank account, and has my real name and address to it so would there be any way for this to affect my credit or could my name be sent to any credit agencies or anything like that? I do not intend to pay this money to paypal and when I did call to speak with a rep they just spoke a lot of b.s. Since then I removed my bank account and will be moving soon (not related to paypal issue).

If anyone has any knowledge about this I would appreciate any info you can give.

No, PayPal is not going to hunt you down and break your legs. If the customer has absolutely no
reason for the chargeback then show PayPal your tracking numbers where you mailed the laptops.

If that does not work then do the following:

1. Look at the shipping address and find their name and all their info.
2. File a subpoena and take them to court to get your money back.

Do not lose your PP account because of buyer fraud. You can fight them in small claims court.
And since your bank is detached don't worry about PP for now.

A guy sold me a product, never shipped anything and then calls paypal and tells them it was a virtual good. I gave them proof of all the conversations to prove this and the fake tracking number he gave me too. In the end they awarded him the dispute. Now I'm going to hit them very hard.

there are working ones!, i bought a money generator app for $250 to generate $1 daily for 5 years!, although it stopped working after a week :/

Thank you for this advice. Although it seems like such a hassle to go through just to keep an account. As long as there are no repercussions it would seem a lot easier to just open a new account.

Well I wouldn't consider that a lot but yes issues do arise from time to time. One was from the end of the buyer and now its from the end of being a seller.

They won't really come after you,, I had a negative balance Paypal account a couple years ago, I simply opened a new one with a different email address and different physical address and nothing happened... Good call removing your bank account, they might have tried charging your account although I've never heard of that happening I'm pretty sure they have something in their TOS that allows them to do so... If you wanted to be extra safe I would close down that bank account if you don't use it regularly, seeing as they don't have your SSN, at that point there would be absolutely nothing they can do to you or your credit.

Good luck OP, and be careful with Paypal transactions, especially with high-value items outside of Ebay!

Ok thank you sprgroup, makes me feel a lot better. Its sad that people are doing this though and its almost as though paypal is allowing them to.

It would all depend on how high the negative balance is thats in your Paypal account.

If the balance is high enough in the negative Ebay will take actions to find you no matter how anonymous you are they will try to find you and probably succeed in finding you.

The most common way Ebay finds out who you really are is by getting a court order to look at the information on the bank account that is attached to your Paypal account.

Once they have found you by looking at your bank account or by using other resources they use. Ebay will take legal actions against you and take you to court. Resulting in your wages being garnished or even going to the gray bar hotel.

However to compel Ebay to take that action im sure you would have needed to be scammed for a much larger amount of money.
