What is the best way to deal with a past client that you have work ontheir site for 7 months. Cliuent paid only 1200.00 of 4000.00 due and now is trashing me while using my hardwork on his site. I am tempted to destory it but I have never taken a step like that before. But I have to shut this guy up Suggestions? Please

If you deserve to get paid, why trash your own work? Threaten legal action if he doesn't pay up and if he still doesn't pay up, take him to court. You might not even need a lawyer if you have evidence of an agreement where he agreed to pay you $4k for your services.

I was a complete idiot and took it on a handshake over coffee. August of last year. I feel like a world class idiot for that. However what is done is done. The guy has a 4 million dollar judgement out of Texas against him as it is. I don't think he will worry to much about anything I can do in small claims court here in Southern California. Thanks for the thoughts though.

If there is no contract, technically you can take down the site. This type of work is often deliver in full after full payment had been made and cleared. Since he did not pay you in full, you can either take it down or give him only half. But do consult an attorney first. No contract means you are not obligated to shit.

He has already locked me out changed the ftp and site passwords did that 5 minutes after I completed and before he refused to pay.

Maybe let him know that you will tell your story about what happened online... and rank the story for his business name and keywords. Let him know that you won't lie, you'll just tell the story as a warning to other people that may be thinking of doing business with him. He might not want to risk the bad online publicity and maybe you can workout a lump sum payment you can live with.

did you sign over the rights to it? I mean if you didn't just modify a template you do still own the rights to it...

Also is he spreading lies to people that you can get statements from? is it public? it's called defamation of character, or slander.

but if you've been cursing him out and calling him all kinds of names and acting childish, i'd just say let it go and learn your lesson. Same shit just happened to me bro. i could've deindexed his website, but what would that have done? fucked his life over more than he did mine?

lesson learned for me and i'm moving on. suggest you do the same, and say fuck handshakes.

If what he is saying is true, a defamation suit would be in order. Especially if it is hurting your ability to make money.

The next step would be to outrank his site with a competitor or six...competitors that actually pay their bills.

Then use his email address to complete a few CPA offers of yours. :)

i have the same problem but my client only owes me $100 bucks I am still pissed that I did all the work and did not get paid, been thinking about it for a couple of days and its not really the money but it is the principal of the work done. I would still like to take revenge but I am thinking of just moving on an let it be...
Regards
Suave

so you made a hand shake deal and delivered the work completely before getting paid
  • lesson learned
  • never do this again
  • move on

Thanks to all the replies thus far. It would almost be funny if I did not want to punch him in the moutyh so bad. I was in a hairs breath of starting a couple of DOS.. But thought better of it. After listening to my peers I feel somewhat better... Nothing the guy is saying is true and I have been the voice of reason and the adult in the mix (a new role for me), so I have kept it above board so far. I appericate the support Thanks to you all again
Sam
