pagination urls hard to be rank

there is a content on my site which has splinted into multiple pages like page1, page2...i want it to rank for keyword "example" if I will put this keyword as anchor text for second-page URL "page2" will it affect my ranking??

Nope, you just need to properly optimize that page for that keyword and you are good to go.

That sounds dirty, do not do dirty onpage

Just noindex your pages /2/3/4 if they have duplicate content
