Over Optimization Penalty Launched Today

I experienced the same yesterday - here is my case:
4 year old domain (quality moneysite)
I've optimized for one page the last two months using web 2.0s only (blasted a few of the web 2.0s, but mainly web 2.0s that stood alone)
The 2.0s contained spun readable content (nothing fancy).
Each KW I went for had around 50 2.0s pointing to the site with the same anchor.
Been doing it for around 2 months. Adding more KW runs to the mix.

Yesterday all the ranks got wiped out relating to the KW's I've optimized for. The moneysite retained the normal ranks. Only the rankings obtained by the 2.0s got obliterated.

What happened? It looks like I've overoptimized the anchors. No variation. I've used the same technique on two other sites. They have not been hit, but I haven't made that many 2.0s to them yet, so perhaps they are under the anchor diversification radar.

Which brings me to the solution:

Either change the anchor on 60% of the 2.0 that I've created (they are indexed and many of the rank in top 100) or create new Web 2.0s with only non kw anchors (click here, check this etc.) or blast some social bookmarks at the site (also with non kw anchors).

So what do you guys think? Should I redo the 2.0s, or blast new anchors to the site?

im trying to create new web 2.0 sites with different anchors and links. i think that looks more natural then changing the already indexed web 2.0 site

I agree. Additionally it's likely that new links will get crawled faster than the existing web 2.0s unless it's on a truly popular blog, which I think you said they were just one off accounts.

I'm going to try adding a few non-anchor links to see if these pages rebound.
 
put ur self in google shoes and do some reflection, i think Google is a bit tired of doing this SEO thing stuff lately, since facebook has been the new thing now
 
All Google has to do is come here and look at what type of links people are building (Web 2.0, Wiki, bookmarks, etc) and flag them as suspicious using a classifier. This, combined with onpage content, gets calculated in a trust score and bam - you are sent off of page one to a page few visit. Penguin needs careful analysis, and I have not seen many testimonials yet to form a firm opinion on anything. In other words, keep a close eye on what you do and do it slowly so that you can monitor progress.

if you can log into your 2.0s I would do so and change the anchors and then see what happens, if you come back it would be a great case study for all of us...

So Google are penalising a site for something that could easily be been manipulated by a competitor?

"I know, I'll do blasts to this website with the same anchor link 100% of the time and watch them drop out of / down the rankings"

Yes. We all suspect negative SEO works. Only one proper case study has been completed.

If I could have access to a one million scrapebox/xrumer blast (or be able to purchase it for a reasonable price) I would test it. As of now I just don't have the resources to test a negative SEO campaign. I have built up CLEAN resources.... not black hat ones :lol:
 
Damn.. My gray hat site lost all positions and is nowhere to be found, but 2 other aged domains in the same highly competitive niche with only "Hello World" posts are ranking on the 8-15 positions for 100K+ exact keywords.. WTF google.. Are we back to 2005?

I have been saying the same thing the index at the moment is looking 2004-2005ish. Might try some of my really old techniques and see what happens

Google has thrown me out of the search results today for all the good words including PART OF MY DOMAIN NAME. Did you just hear me screaming from where you are in your part of the world? Soooo... I poured half a bottle of Hershey's syrup into a bowl, squirted whipped cream on top of that, and am shoveling it into my mouth by the spoonfuls. When I go into a sugar high, this terrible injustice will no longer matter to me.

that makes sense, so many dudes on here, just assumed...nice, chocolate syrup and tortilla chips, trying to imagine that in your stomach...sounds like a good tummy ache...
 
Im seeing a domain in my niche whos popped to the #1 spot in the past 7 days. Every single link going to his site is from his lemondetox site. Every single one and whats really confusing is that his domain is hosted on the same ip address as the one ranking #1 for. Go figure. Does this throw out the idea that link diversity across multiple C class ips is now unnecessary????

I'm looking at his lemon detox site. Every single link coming to that one is from another site that he owns. This one also hosts on the same ip as all the other sites. All links come from another health site he has. Not a single link from social bookmarking or blog networks or comments.

What this guy is doing to rank his sites in the #1 spot goes against everything i ever learnt in SEO.

No message at all. They didn't include a field on that form for an email address, so I put my email right in the bottom box where I wrote out my complaints. But they didn't email me back. I just checked the serps today and found myself back in for one of the good keyword phrases that I was dropped for. I was dropped for all the different keywords on the same day, so I am assuming it was the form that was read. I have not done anything different, so it had to be the form.
