Over Optimization Penalty Launched Today

Another thing I've noticed is when doing site:mysite it seems to be very confused about how many results it has returned. One site with 300ish pages says it has over 900 pages indexed but it doesn't. Everything looks fine in webmaster tools.

There is definitely some major problems and it is very ignorant of Matt Cutts to assume this new algorithm is working properly. Over a week later and still nothing has been done.

Is anyone able to show me any keywords where sites with no PR and backlinks are ranking for medium keywords etc? I haven't seen any yet.

Seeing this exact same thing! WEIRD!

Is anyone noticing that random internal pages are now ranking instead of the main page? Out of 50 keywords the front page is now only ranking for 4 of them and the rest are random inner pages that were never supposed to rank.

Even the inner pages don't make sense. For example was ranking #1 for "blah blah loans" with a page about blah blah loans. Now a random other page that only mentions blah blah loans once is ranking for it.

If I ever see a penguin I'm going to snap it's beak off.

Used to happen before the update. After the update, everything was fixed for me and the correct pages are ranking. This update has affected my site positively, the site is now ranking #1 for its main keyword and its been pushed from #40< to #20> for the other keywords, I can't complain.

I'm seeing some improvements in my sites. Some main keywords have recovered rank to page 2. Post penguin most keyword rankings fell to page 3+. I haven't done much. No backlinking, just posted a few articles since the rankings fell. Progress is slow but I'm hoping that this trend continues.

Anyone experiencing improvements in their ranks after a big drop?

An important website had some dropping all-around. Not sure it is penguin or not. Just 1-2 spots, but those 1-2 spots really hurt. Really hoping it'll fix itself over the weekend :)

i decreased key word density and changed articles on landing pages. My ranking increases in last 2-3 days, I`m on page 2 adult dating site.

I've never even seen a .org.uk!!

I searched "Pay Day Loans" on google and this site is ranked 1st!

whitepaydayloans(.)org.uk

This has been happening to me for two months, so I have been doing more with it. Make random inner pages and put your keywords in the url endings. So if you want to rank for big dog, do yourdomain.com/big-dog Then give link juice to these pages. The keywords I am doing these for are competive keywords in my niche and it's working.

Just read through this entire thread and the only strategies I've seen are 301 redirects (sounds like a temporary fix) or doing some onsite cleanup. Anyone have any other theories that they're trying that are producing results?

You know what? My sites got hit, (:youdontsay:) however, I'm not angry at google now. Everyone (including me) was saying stuff like "oh, google is forcing adwords", "google wants to screw bussinesses over" but at the moment I don't see any garbage ranking (like two weeks ago was). I think google really DID IMPROVE search quality!

"Oh no! We're screwed than! Lets give up!"
Well, F no. That only means we will have to tweak our tricks, thats it. I also was about to quit before I saw this article http://www.micrositemasters.com/blog/penguin-analysis-seo-isnt-dead-but-you-need-to-act-smarter-and-5-easy-ways-to-do-so/
If you haven't read this already I really advise you to do so. This article basically states that NONE OF THE SITES THAT WERE PENALIZED HAD 60% OR LOWER AMOUNT OF THE TARGETED ANCHOR TEXTS LINKING TO THEM.

Just my 2 cents.

Two days ago, I was surpemely depressed. Now that I've got new strategies to attack websites (that I KNOW work), I'm actually kind of excited. Lots of work... but this update has overall been a good thing. I still have my jobs, and I also learned a shit-tonne about SEO in the process that I just let myself glaze over because of outsourcers :D

Whatever doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.

Is it still safe to post manual original content comments with your keywords on blogs and sites ?
