Over Optimization Penalty Launched Today

Hello, everybody was doing some testing on some competing sites in some spam, and that the news came a few positions and other positions fell 9

Indeed Patel - and we haven't heard from many of them since the Penguin update, which suggests they are still earning money, or at least are working on fixing the issue.

Indeed. I'm one of the quiet guys, trying to figure out what's going on.
Did some of you got their websites back to the top?

I lost more rankings last night on other sites that I thought had escaped.

Yesterdays Adsense was the lowest for months. I hope this is the lowest it gets as it's declined 3 days in a row. I can't see things getting any better. I don't think Google will roll things back and admitted they made a mistake.. Just seems unlikely.

Just waiting now until I can see a clear direction to take.. Build more links? What's the point..

I'm wondering about what direction to take too, most of my major monthly income clients will leave soon, being on page 5 doesnt warrant paying me anymore, the smaller ones didnt get hit :$

I'm wondering how i can remove all the articleranks, bmr and high pr crap from my link profile but i don't think i'll have much luck.

I'm sure there will be some light at the end of the tunnel, but the only thing that I can get a laugh from at the moment is that hitler video :D

I was just checking the link profile of one of the sites that is ranking number 1 for one of my keywords and it's showing 70 backlinks most of which are from totally spammed out .edu blogs..

None of the links have the keyword in and yet this innner page is ranking number 1..

wtf

Hello, can anyone with large Scrapebox and Xrumer lists please target Matt Cutts blog with the keyword term "Matt Cutts" to see if we can knock him off his top listing for his own blog or at least get him to notice that negative SEO tactics are going to become a problem for Google rankings in the future. Its been confirmed that it actually does work just search Traffic Planet for Negative SEO Study. I've accidentally done it to my own sites just by purchasing Fiverr Xrumer gigs so I know that it works. So please fire up your Xrumer and Scrapebox cannons and fire away at Matt Cutts blog and see if we can at least get him to mention that he's received a warning about building unnatural link building from Google Webmaster Tools for his own blog which would be a start in the right direction to get the situation corrected.

Everyone except Google seems to know it shouldn't be possible to hurt your competitors rankings by aiming Scrapebox and Xrumer blasts at them but the way "negative SEO" is currently working in combination with Google's latest Penguin updates it's almost more tempting to blast my competitors sites out of existence instead of trying to figure out how to rank my own sites within the context of this new algorithm.

On a side-note did anyone really have a huge issue with the search engine results before this update rolled-out? I thought the search results were fine before Google decided to roll out this over-optimization algorithm which is obviously a total failure just search Google for Viagra and have a look at the compromised sites and the .edu sites that have nothing to do with Viagra and keep your eye out for a 2007 Youtube commercial about Viagra which I'm sure searchers typing Viagra into a search engine are looking for. Way to go Google!

Practical Penguin Algorithm SEO Advice:

If you have had particular keywords affected by the latest Penguin update which many of us have had then try scaling that particular keyword back to 1% keyword density per page if you need help with this or whatever keyword density tool you prefer. Also target multiple multiple anchor texts if you have targeted just a few in the past. On a side note I have used NoHandsSEO and GSA Search Engine Ranker and haven't noticed any keywords dropping due to their use in fact I have a page that is sitting in the top 4 of 53,500,000 results competition with little fluctuations and I have only used NoHandsSEO. Before you blame any software make sure that your drop in search engine rankings isn't due to your particular keyword density and how tightly you have focused on your anchor text for your fallen keyword. Please report if you have noticed things along these lines.

Don't panic, all will be fine and all is recoverable. Cheers.

Google employees like Matt Cutts are not subject to their own algorithm...only us / the general public!!

Same with me - sites that I thought had escaped dropped for a couple keywords, reducing my clicks by a further 20%. Overall loss of clicks so far - 50%. I see no reason to continue building links. What an idiot I was, thinking the update was over yesterday when it was confirmed to be rolled out everywhere. It seems it's still going. I hope this is the lowest it can go.

LMFAO called out
In all fairness, that post is a year old and a lot can happen in a year. I don't follow his posts enough to form an opinion on boastful behavior, but just saying that a lot can happen. A short time ago I got in the serps for the words jewelry, jewelry store, jeweler. Jewelry is an almost impossible word to get in the serps for. The position for jewelry was not good but then all of a sudden I appeared on page 2. Sales were through the roof. Now I'm completely gone from the serps for all those words. Point is that although it was sudden and short lived, a lot can happen in a year's time.

At this point in time, I am so frustrated that I may give up my dream and work outside the home. Every time I get to the top for the best keywords, I get knocked down again. This roller coaster has been going on for ten years. Offline marketing is what's keeping me going right now. I am getting sick and tired of major companies dominating the serps with their black hat methods that are much worse than anything we do here. I am losing my drive to compete and I never lost my fighting spirit like I have now. Personally, I'm not even that black hat. I just don't know any more.

I came here in hope to find some new interesting info how to fight this update, and all I can read on the last pages is how Experton is fighting with the group of other members...

Let's get this thread back on track. I believe that the update is not finished yet! One of my sites (100+ pages of original content) has just dropped from top 100 for about 70% of its keywords. No blog network ever used on this site...

What about you? Any movements seen the last night?

I have one site I am trying to rank. It was actually a friend's site he let me work on because he has a zillion others to worry about. I spent a fair amount of time and some money rewriting the content, tags, descriptions etc... The main KW on the main domain was on like page three or four with just a few organic back links. I purposely did not do any regular SEO to it so that the new content would have time to sort of marinate.
Then 10 days ago I did one article directory submission via fiver, the main KW went to page one almost over night, then to page two and now to page 5 which is worse than where it was before I did the article submission in the first place!!

As usually it seems like nobody really knows what G did and the best strategy to fix it. Web 2.0s? Only back link with high PR links in a pyramid maybe? I guess we can try anything. I also have another site I put together - a free wordpress blog and also did article submissions, SB blasts, Xrunner etc.. and it really has not been impacted at all. SO go figure.

Dude as soon as I get a good few K I am running straight for paid traffic. SERPs are not reliable for the long term.

Hey guys...I posted a thread about this on ask reddit. Could you help bring public attention to the balls deep ass fucking of small business Google gave us by grabbing a reddit account and upvoting this? The new CEO of reddit is a former G employee... I have the sneaking suspicion that this update was a palace coup but "fat cunts" and the word of how bad the results are have not made it to the top yet.

I still firmly believe a diverse link structure and avoiding highly spammed sites has a solid impact on rankings,
I have a small clutch of AM sites for a gaming niche, myself and the primary product owners sites have only increased during all of these updates, and we both use paid seo services from BHW, which consists of high quality links from private sources.

Don't give up on serps, just don't rely on them 110%

:)

If I do paid advertising, it won't be through Adwords. I think this is all about money and hell will freeze over before Google gets any more money out of me.

I'll just post here rather than make another thread, but wow this has me so frustrated.

Google has gone full retard. Some examples on my site. I'll use "dog training" as my niche as to not give away my real site info. Assume my domain is freedogtraining.com.

All my rankings have dropped tremendously or disappeared (nothing deindexed) from the results. I'm only on page 1 for 1 keyword which dropped from position #1 to #7.

Few Examples:

free dog training #7 - www.freedogtraining.com

dog training #60 - www.freedogtraining.com/Faq.aspx WTF??? - used to be like #5 and my main domain

sample keyword 1 #200 - www.freedogtraining.com/blog/ - Okay "sample keyword 1" only appears one time here in the Recent Posts section

sample keyword 2 #233 = www.freedogtraining.com/blog/default.aspx?page=4 - Okay I have these type pages disallowed in my robots.txt!!! I have not changed my robots.txt, and I know it's right! This type pages used to not even be in the index at all.

Seems like most people have either had some decent gains or been completely dropped in the rankings... what kinds of links were you building?
