Over Optimization Penalty Launched Today

if its over, suicide is the only option. i think we all lost, lol. I lost a 15kmo site. I rank 21. (had 4 # 1 spots). Were all hatin it.

It reminds me of communism in USSR ? every one must be the same. Well that did not work. Because people who were working with chickens their whole life or did not work at all cannot manage the country.

Same here people that did little or no SEO for their website most likely do not care about their websites. If someone does not care about his site how can he have a quality website?

I'm torn. I'm inclined to think that Google is KEEPING this update with the way Matt Cutt's is acting and the fact that they rarely reverse an update. However, 75% of my niches where I ranked high have been replaced with garbage - I find it hard to swallow that Google will keep these terrible sites on page one (sites with 404 not found, completely unrelated sites etc). Perhaps we are all simply "dancing" under the new algorithm and this time next month we will either a)be back to normal or b) know how to successfully outrank the garbage. Unfortunately I think the only thing we can do now is wait. Waiting is tough in a business where every minute can cost you money, but I think it's the only option. To be proactive I think we, as a forum should start testing, in the even that this update is permanent. Perhaps we can collectively find what can surge us back to page 1.

Is it over for real or are we going to have more changes. It sounds like its going to be an ongoing thing.

I think the update isn't over. Searchengineland has just cited some glitches on the update. I'm pretty sure G will be doing some more Penguin updates soon.

I welcome this change IF it works as intended.

For too long crap websites with worthless spun content have received prominent search engine ranks. All that did was reduce the value of the internet and cause some people to get the impression that internet marketers don't add value to anything.

I'm glad that websites with nothing but low-quality crap content (broken English or spun) will be relegated to Google's dustbin.

This is great news for all of us that actually wish to provide our sites' visitors with useful, high-quality content.

Don't know if writing bunch of articles will help much. Because one of my sites has over 1100 100% unique articles. That got dropped after the update rolled out. The other site that has about 7 articles on it improved its rankings.

I'm seeing the same thing.
The thinner my sites the more likely they survived.

As stupid as it sounds, me too. My 4 page MNS actually went up while my 30 page authority site that had much more useful content dropped 2 spots.

Same here, None of my sites got hit and they are all less than 10 pages.

Guys with authority sites that got hit, how many keywords were you blatantly targeting with your pages? - pages with urls and possibly titles straight out of webmaster tools kinda thing?

just thinking out loud.

I think what I'm seeing here might be a problem with deep linking. And that's why "thinner" sites survived this better compared to huge sites with hundreds/thousands of pages (and maybe not that much linking done to each page, correct me if I'm wrong). I'm seeing same pattern with my own sites.

Also I've noticed that some of my sites root domains has completely dropped from serps, but some inner pages still ranking (mostly for wrong keywords though and wrong pages, privacy-policy for main keyword for example). Not sure if this means anything, just making observation.

I so agree with this. I wouldm't mind the -37 ass fucking but now the top ten is flooded with like fucking yelp category pages. It is fucking disgusting.
Wow, that is an absolute fuck up on their part.

I completely agree, let the dust settle. The search results are so NON-user friendly that they've had the opposite effect of everything Google talks about re. quality. All talk, no walk. Expecting more changes to come before I start worrying too much.

Google screwed us all.....and pandas to!!

I'll NEVER be able to look at a panda again and have any love for it!!

If I was a real panda Id be sewing Google for giving me a bad name/wrap!!

Google has to much power over the internet......I think the power is about to shift!!

Ultimately Google is going to be Googles downfall!!

Google has been fucking with our rankings.....well Googles rankings are about to fall also!!

There is no logic with their algarythms now.....they are just doing shit to do shit......Screwing everyone....not only black hat but white hat also!!

They think all this Bull Shit is going to be the end of bought SEO.....

Get a fucking life.....

All this is going to do is make a turning of the tide......Yahoo and Bing will take the reigns!!

Look at Myspace and how ontop they were!! Now they arent even a thought in anyones minds.......

Give it 5 to 10 years and Google may be like myspace....we will all say remember that guy MAtt Cutts??

lol

sit back and watch........Myspace....I mean Google may be on their way down!!!

:)))

REALLY!

You simply have no idea. People who invest time and money on link building are the same people who want to and do create quality - there is no point being #1 in Google if you don't have what the people are looking for. Generally speaking most SEO'd websites have had time spent on them ensuring relevant meta data, tidy canonical URLS, sitemaps etc. Just look at the shit that is appearing now - empty and broken pages, godaddy auction pages, genuine businesses with exact match EMD vanished and inner pages of the same domain in number 1,2,3,4 spots!

and now google have created Negative SEO which is completely unethical and will create the worst type of spam ever seen!

My piss is boiling - what a complete fuck up!

With the one site I had that took a dump. I noticed that most of my visits are now coming via google images search. All most all the images I have a ranking up top in images.google.com for their respected keywords. Also been noticing a shit ton of youtube vids coming up in search results. Time to make a bunch of youtube vids, with hopes in luring them to my site for now.

My 2-5 page sites survived..but they do give the visitor useful info. One of my most valuable sites has about 30 pages of 1000+word content with images and videos. Ranking for dozens of KWS. All gone. Go figure. It does have natural links from forums and whatnot too!

I think this change is affecting in good way to my 2 month old site and only have 10 pages. All keywords have postie movement for google.com.au. "seo services" came to 7th page from 12th page, "seo packages" came to third page from 5th page. I had SB blast and xrummer links in 3rd tire.
