Over Optimization Penalty Launched Today

I did some soft senukex campaigns a year ago for a month and decided that I don't have the time/creativity for it.

After the latest update I'm now

#18 for a 142 Mio Keyword
#10 for a 134 Mio Keyword

Dunno if this is related to my low PR (2) or that my staff got increased (editorial / news page)

But have seen some competitors, who made since 2 years backlinking campaigns and have tons of shitty backlinks disappearing.

From my point of view the update helped me and penalized the griefy ones in my niche

I hope my page (actively worked on 6 weeks now), will not drop that hard if the big ones come back.

For me it shows that high-quality content + high-quality backlinks and user-activity is way more important now, which I appreciate.

Maybe they got also hit by the layout-algo, as their site was very crowded, or it's a mix. G nowadays comes up with an update on a weekly basis.

Keep looking forward and not only rank by blackhat, use that as a small support and let projects take their time.

Cheers

keyword destiny sounds a lot cooler

someone should make a kw research tool and call it that

One of my major niches is food related, #1 spot is showing a church website with a page not found page. Good lord

I am firmly sticking to the belief that this isn't over! It absolutely cannot be finished yet! I'm hoping this isn't naivety on my part because this update, as it currently stands, is sucking balls of gigantic magnitude!

It may bounce back down too... mine did this... up and down.
checked in on it 3 different times between then and now (each time i checked with my home connection, then texas proxy, then either russian or european prox)
hasn't moved a single spot

Fucking Google. Look at that dumbass cartoon pic of the nice, friendly, harmless penguin. When in fact the update is anything but. What's with all these gay dumbass names for their shitty updates. Fuck Google!!!

Apparantly Matt Cutts has announced that the Pengiun Update has now been succesfully rolled out worldwide!

So is that it? Was looking for a security company in my area today at work - tried using google but results were so bad eventually gave up and went to Yell instead, must be over 2 years since I used Yell.

Also searched for an international branded product today where the first result was always the manufacturer - guess what Amazon was in the #1 spot with irrelevant site in #2 followed by a bunch of low quality sites, but no sign of the manufacturer!

If this is it then I feel people will vote by their fingers and resort to Yahoo or Bing.

Just been reading on Search Engine Land that following the 'Penguin Update' a vote was put out on facebook for a name for the update and the people came up with 'Titanic' - I think that is much more fitting!

Calm down brothers, give it a few days.

I agree completely, although there is a small percentage of doubt that after the storm things might not be the same. Anyway, there was another major update end of last month and my sites survived it and became stronger..

I don't think this change is permanent however, unfortunately for me (and others {I've lost over 50 sites}) I don't think they'll just simply reset it back to the way it was.

is update isn't over. But for now, while a very important website of mine has gone down, another very important website's traffic has increased by like, 10%, which is actually a massive godsend, and that is more important than the other website.

Wondering what to do for the other website. The penalty bites. If I were to create a new site, I could regain a lot of my rankings within 3 months. But then again, I might be able to get them back sooner with this one... its tough to decide tbh.

The biggest issue for me now is micro niche sites. What is the new strategy? My micro niche site that was successful went from #1 to #10 to #9. I really want to expand into MNS/authority sites... how do I backlink to these babies, and how much content do they need?

Although my thin sites took a hit, content doesn't seem super important. On my money site, a 100 word blog post is ranking at #7 for an important keyword, LOL. I'm so confused by this update. The thing to do is to wait it out and read about peoples thoughts in a week... but that requires patience and a lack of ability to take action. Nooo!

I know what we should all do in this time. Write articles, lol :P

Finally, it's over. However shit the results may be right now, at least it is over. I don't want to be naive but after all the deindexing of blog networks and now this massive update, surely we've got at least a good 6-12 months before another huge update, inevitably called after some other gay ass black/white animal.

my serps were going nuts between 1-3 pm. Some came back some left and dropped off.

What do you mean "its over"? How is it "over"? Did they announce it was over?

I literally will see one of my kw rankings on page1, then its on page 2, but wait when i go back to page 1 its gone. Go back to page 2 there it is with a link. Google is on crack.
