Google's algo update, just like the first panda (though I argue this one is bigger and worse), is a purely negative update.
It's a hard update as well... sites are given penalties relative to their perceived transgressions... Almost all sites as a result have received some kind of penalty

It's no secret how well some of my sites have done in this last year... I was just making a point about wasting a year of your life to make 5000EUR
I have a MS in Nuclear Engineering, I don't see why I would continue SEOing, for much, much longer hours, if I made less than 150kUSD/yr

hey guys i've suffered immense loss in the last month, and was about to make some serious cash. this sucks. at any rate i say lets stop the bitching and try to discern these algo changes.

my first question, does anyone think EMD domain names is a factor? all my sites were exact match domains basically, it seems that is a logical way to filter out over optimized penalty. i don't see anymore bs BestWaytoLoseWeightFastPro.com type sites anymore in top 10.

google will have to reverse changes to its algorithm. It can be clearly seen that its past few changes have not made the search engine any better. lol just take a look at all the comments on the post. Seems that original content has dropped also in serps.

This is beginning to remind me of the stock market. Random up and down movements and people wanting to give reasons for the random movements.

Maybe the assumption that Google knows what they are doing is wrong.

i wonder if this will also update the pr of the affected sites or only the rankings..

My site went from #1 to "i-dont-know-where" and I am replaced by the site that is given in the screenshot below

Hahahaha Do a search on "url shortener" #1 result the site is 2 years old,but results like bitly are now pushed down..the whole page has a bunch of sites I had not seen before

aiam.edu is now ranking at #5 for the keyword Viagra. Seems the shit keeps rising to the top of Google's toilet.

I took a close look at 10 of my sites because these 10 are very, very similar. One of them tanked and the others remained where they were; no movement. The linking techniques were all the same. All had original, quality content, nice designs, and very few ad links in out of the way places. Content was front and center.

The only major difference I've been able to figure out is that the site that tanked was part of a hugely targeted niche (health) and the others were more obscure. Stuff that makes money, sure, but not stuff that many marketers bother targeting. Even though they aren't targeted much there is still competition from major authority sites, so it's not because they are weak keywords.

If what happened to about 50 of my pages in different niches yesterday is typical, the search result quality of Google has overnight worsened by at least 80%.

For one of my insurance sites, all pages with quality content are gone, but my disclaimer page now appears at the 4th page for a pretty competitive keyword.

For another site where I review learn guitar programs, my 'guitar program X review' page now ranks for 'guitar program Y review'.

For many Wordpress websites I have, only 'search' and 'tag' pages are left. They just came up out of the blue and rank well since yesterday - cheesy 'search' pages Wordpress seems to autogenerate and Google picks them up - I didn't even know these pages existed, and they have due to their nature of course crappy content compared to the 'real' pages.

Generally, in my case it seems to be an 'anchortext' penalty.

Basically, all my home pages are gone, but inner pages with little to no backlinks rank for keywords I had never targeted, sometimes for completely irrelevant keywords.

The quality of content and whether it's duplicate content or not does not seem to make a difference in my case. The opposite, my worst sites went a few positions up, and my high quality unique sites are wiped out. Sites with just one or two pages, like those I had just set up with some duplicate content thrown on there for now, went up. It's ridiculous.

Way to go, Google - this change is going to make a real improvement in your users search experience.

This. Seeing a lot of sites that have some good content for the user that aren't on the first page anymore. Regardless of whatever link building (or lack thereof) that they've done, Google's lumped them all into the same boat.

Google won't rank any site, except ones that are spending on Adwords. Only sites with no links can be ranked in first few months, but this probably won't last for a long time, since a good site would get some links over time.

Even if you could use web 2.0. it seems like poor spun content for backlinks doesn't index at all, i guess in future properly sentence level spun content will be of no use as well. So probably the only way to make buffers would be to write or pay someone to write proper content, with no grammar errors. For 2000 web 2.0 it would costs $10000.

Since you cannot use web 2.0's and other places to spam, nor spinning, then only way is to build a blog network. But this isn't a safe way as well. It is probably pretty easy for google to crack it down as well.

I see someone complaining on Google's Webmaster Central blog about ranks for the keyword "python hosting."



It is not keyword stuffing for sure since the only words on the destination page are OK! LOL

And the HTML source only has the word OK in it. No title tag, description or anything else.
