Hey guys,

So I have been doing SEO on a large eCommerce website for about two months now, and I have been using all the normal techniques that USUALLY work for me: relevant, contextual high PR links, quality web 2.0s, PDFs, and social bookmarks with less than 10% exact match anchors.

I have hit these pages hard with PR links and it feels like I'm never going to get past the authority websites on the first page.

All 10 of the keywords (national KWs) I'm working on are between positions #8-15. Authority websites on the first page include Walmart, Overstock, Amazon, IKEA, and Macy's to name only a few.

Do I need to take things up another notch and get some PR 6 + links? I'm pretty much stuck at this point. What strategies do you guys use to get above the annoying authority websites?

Thanks!

I have the same problems, more my site was been hitten by algoritm change last week and i didn't see it anywhere in google US but in google.com,it's still on 5th page
Pls what it means, what's happened, pls help

You know what I have been doing that works is creating good content on the blog section of the website that is just realtated to the industry and then linking out to an authority site to help confirm what I am saying is true...I do use nofollow link for this to them. Try that out for a few post and see how well it helps you.

From my previous experience you have 2 options:

1) turn it into a numbers game and outrank by more link numbers ( be carefull not to look unnatural tho)
2) get higher PR + relevant links.

I do belive you should give it an extra wait and see maybe you will outrank with all you have so far.

i am doing a small test with it. Creating backlinks for myself and for authority sites in same place.. lets see how it goes :)

- Great idea ZeroKool, but unfortunately I already do this :/ I almost always link out to a relevant authority site when I create any high PR post

Thanks Svabb. Good points and definitely things I have already considered. I'm worried about playing the numbers game because the authority websites outranking me have less than 10 links... However, your point about waiting is really good because I have noticed that after about months of solid link building, the great ranking increases are achieved. Unfortunately, clients don't understand "patience" :/

Well have you created post that go along the bottom of your target search term in Google?

Example: Where It Says Searches related to in Google.

Make sure to back date the post so its not showing on the fist page of your blog looking all funny and stuff.

If you do that you will become an authority in your niche and thus forcing Google to rank you higher.

Also you could renew the domain for at least 5 years that helps a little.

Don't build links from other sites to fast as it will get you messed up later on.

Tell this client that he should really be paying more as it's harder to rank for these terms than you expected...don't let him or her bully you..

Look at onsite seo as far as h1 header tags and their locations ect.

Try Social Signals, If you reached page one, then add social signals like tweets, retweets, fb likes, fb shares, etc..It will give some more boost and also keep add links.

Yes make sure to add a Google Plus button on their some where too!

Oh! Good point about the post date. I never tried that, but it seems really logical. I'm going to do that right now. So you think having the posts on the homepage can actually seem fishy?

- Thanks! Yeah, I already tried some retweets, but I'm not really seeing much from it. I'll try a little Facebook action and see what happens

You can't miss with facebook, for my ecommerce I have 80 Traffic from FB that is targeted with high conversion rate. So you will not waste money in FB promotion.

Yeah I do let's not forget about the Google Raters as they will view your site and decide...real people. I guess you can consider doing this a grey hat area...not full blown black hat but shades of grey.

Don't forget when you do build links to switch up the anchor text too.

How many links you have and what's the highest PR?

Highest PR is 4 and there is probably 10-15 + PR links hitting each page along with other links for diversity. I know I should probably bump up the PR because I'm dealing with authorities. Do you agree?

Best you can create Infographics. And promotion via Very High Authority domains and make sure you'll get referral backlinks also. Better to try that.

You simply need more links, quality links preferably. If your site is old / authoritative enough you can work in a FEW quality sape style links a week (don't send hundreds in a month, and only get .com TLD with little to no OBL, there is tons of these on sape). I have sites that've been using sape links for 1+ year that are ranking extremely well and were never hit, because I don't go overboard with it. I get amazing results with linkworm and niche integrity also.
