Does placing a lot of outbound links on your site in a short period of time, result in getting a google slap?

It is usually not very good to do that real quickly... one way to eliminate that is to no follow them or even take a look at a plugin like Shezboy offers that hides them.

Maybe you have not... see what is going on in the search engine as to your rankings for your KWs. I'm not a fan of the outbound links to anything that does not make me money on my money sites but some others think it helps in rankings.
I've not seen a benefit in my testing and we have spent some time and money in that testing.
Do see what your site is doing as to rankings though and perhaps you are fine.

Well, I was on page 1 and 2 of google for my keyword and all of a sudden I've disappeared today and I've checked over a period of a good few hours.
The only thing that has changed is I inserted 5-10 outbound links 3 days ago so I assume it must be that.
I'm currently tearing them all off frantically lol. Thanks for your help BTB.

Placing some outbound links to authority sites shouldn't have a negative effect unless you've maybe gone a little OTT with them just for the sake of trying to please Google but if you want to hide any external links from Google that you'd prefer they didn't see while still allowing your human visitors to see them then have a look at Link Ninja Pro that's here on BHW.

Not recommended to have too many links either outbound or inbound is a short period of time.

Outbound links can't get your site penalised and they won't improve your rankings either. Link out for the benefit of your visitors only as that's all that matters with regard to linking out.

Most of the PBN sellers doing this. So nothing bad in this.
