Opinion on first YouTube Video

Good Afternoon Everyone,

A friend and I just created our first video for our youtube channel. We will be showing video our travels and putting up still photographs. Anywho would you check out the first video? I would appreciate some constructive criticism / things that you like.

Looks good so far. One suggestion have the host wear shirts with the channel name or the brand not a godaddy tshirt.

Good idea.

I have a few questions on the technical side.

What camera did you use?

Did you edit it yourself?

What editing software did you use?

I'm certified in Final Cut Pro 6 from wwaaaaayyyyy back in about 2008 I think. Have completely lost touch with what's hot now.

Did you do the animation sequences at the start?

How did you record sound? Sounds like just the mic on the camera?

Intro animation was pretty awesome. Logo was really good too. Starry walled background was pretty cool. The rest, to be honest, was a train wreck.

That shit with the "hands" at the beginning made me want to smack the living fuck out of this small decorative cactus I have here beside me.

The stuttering was pretty bad. The audio was very feedback-y. The content was boring as hell. The way the girl pronounced "ar-teeest" made me physically ill.

Don't wear a GoDaddy shirt. Come on man. And don't talk for 30 seconds about how you used to not be fat but now you are. Nobody cares about that.

The cut from the two of you to you doing the Word Of The Day (I'm assuming you're the guy) was abrupt. Also "Brain Bucket" is two words. The whole Word of the Day thing seems incredibly out of place. As did the montage of the playground workout. Is this a fitness channel or a travel-based channel?

This shit has potential, but you have to 1) get a script and stick to it with no stuttering, 2) set yourself apart from the millions of other channels doing the exact same thing.
 
Unscripted videos always end up bad (most of the time). One minute into the video and I already dislike the guy.

This. I understand why you would talk about your high school years, but it's so irrelevant that it made me feel uncomfortable.

Also, the "word of the day" thing... Yeah, don't.

Anyhow, I really like the theme of your channel; camping, hiking, skiing, all of this stuff sounds like fun.
 
Some tough love above but valid points. My question about how you record sound was a roundabout way of saying your audio is a problem.

The eye is forgiving, the ear is not.

So if you can get that sorted that would make a difference on the production side. Maybe separate radio mics or something. I'm guessing they are pretty cheap nowadays, but as I say though I am out of touch with all this stuff.
 
Your video intro is very nice, but personally I would recommend shortening it. If you're starting out, you want people to get hooked to your videos, and having a long intro just means there's a greater chance of viewers tuning out.

Also, might be worth recording in a place with no background noise. Your audio had fuzzy background noise that tends to get a little distracting, and it makes those abrupt cuts that youtubers love doing a lot more obvious and jarring.

I had trouble making it through the full 4 minutes because I found myself frequently switching between your video and "Genie in a Bottle" out of boredom.
For an introduction, it just seemed unnecessarily long and I closed the video feeling dubious about what your channel is about.
 
Well, considering the fact it's your first video, I am very well surprised. Animation / Intro was nice, audio and video quality as well, but next time pay more attention to stabilization of the camera (in the part with outdoor workout), otherwise good job. I will not be judging the content itself, as I am probably not the targeted audience you are looking for.
 
Audio and video quality is good! It is a little long video but overall you did a good job ! I would like to see more descriptions about your activities.

I can understand why.
 
1. Intro: too long + very generic. Rather put video where one can see you doing something exciting or unusual related to your channel.
2. shitty music. get a taste of what your audience listens too and what's recognizable. your music sounds like you're trying to attract kids as your viewers
3. shaky camera. looks like you didnt take like at least 5 videos but took the first which looks extremely unprofessional (for my 'taste')

Produce 3 different videos which you can show to samples of your audience which then can choose the most appealing one related to what you're trying to accomplish.
Don't make the mistake to think "I'ts just the beginning. There will only be 700 views max".

Try to impress and excel from the beginning by actually tasting what you cook.
 
Yes. I agree with some previous replies.
Intro is too long.
Audio quality is not good.
Camera is shaky.

I understated this is only introducing video.
I hope we will see next video and make final conclusion.
 
Practice is God. When you've done with hundreds of more videos everything would be perfect, don't worry. ;)
 
It's cool. Great job especially for the 1st video. Those are usually annoying and people are too shy, but you 2 nailed it.

I didn't like the intro as it was too long. That's probably because I'm used to no intro/short intro channels that I watch.

Also would be great if you popped up for like 5 seconds before the intro to say a few words about the upcoming vid. smth like hey, today we're going to Aspen and will show you how to ski and how I lost my wallet on a parking lot. Let's roll... >> intro >> video
