Lately, finding reliable streaming sites has become noticeably more difficult. Then today, one of the better sites I had been using suddenly displayed one of those darknet-style domain seizure notices.
Apparently, it was caught up in “Operation Offsides.” The DOJ has seized nearly 400 illegal streaming domains, while more than 1,300 others have reportedly had their advertising revenue targeted.
I’m honestly surprised by the scale of it. Piracy streaming sites have existed forever, so why the massive crackdown now? Is it mainly because the World Cup is being hosted in the US, giving authorities more motivation and jurisdiction, or has something else changed behind the scenes?
It also makes me wonder whether this is just a temporary World Cup cleanup or the beginning of a much broader crackdown on streaming sites/other gray-area niches.
Has anyone else noticed their usual sites disappearing recently?
