Onpage SEO and Keyword Density

Can anyone explain to me clearly about Onpage SEO and Keyword Density ?
Cause sometime i see some other sites which is a new site and with a few/without backlinks rank higher

onpage is doing all your meta tags like the keyword for the post or page and others but keyword density is pretty much self explanatory and its the density of your keyword or the amount of keyword in your article

I think you mean how to know the density of a keyword in a text? If your article has 500 words and you have the keyword "airplane" 10 times in there, then your keyword density is 2%.

2% of 500 = 10
1% of 500 = 5
etc.

Forget everything you've read about Keyword Density that was written Pre 2012 (and a lot of people are still touting a bunch of tosh on the subject.)

Write naturally, for the reader. That's it.

The only time I look at keyword density is when I look at a client's new site that has been built by an 'SEO' service, and it's over-optimised at 3-5%+. Then we have to reduce the density by removing keywords and rewriting with LSI/synonyms and alternate phrasing.

Keyword density is now a possible damaging limit/factor: not a target to hit.

Onpage is more in meta data..microformat, H1, H2, <title>, Canonicalization , robot.txt, image alt. Keywords density is where you measure the percentage of the focused keyword appears on the site.

ON-Page Optimization means whatever changes you made on live site like, Meta Tags, Unique Content, Link Structure, XML Sitemap, robots.txt, etc.. and Keyword Density is one part of On-Page Optimization, it is the ration of the Keywords which you targeted for SEO. Basically Keyword Density is around 2%(whatever I have read at somewhere else)
