On Site SEO

Although I have been "in the game" for a few years now, I only recently started to pay close attention to on site seo. I have ranked several sites, and kept that rank, for several blogs, many of them in pretty tough niches. Though I am very confident in my off site seo abilities, I can't help but think it would be easier to start with a more solid foundation.

I decided to start a list of all of the things that I do when I first setup a blog and thought that others could chime in to either add to the list or correct me if I'm wrong. I hope that over time we have a nice list of things that should be done to help give new sites a leg up. This is something that could be of great help to both newbies and vets alike. I know I am looking forward to learning.

So, without further adieu, here are a few things that I do when I start a new site.

1. I make sure that all the cat, tags and archives are either noindex or nofollow. I use the wordpress All in one seo pack plugin for this.

2. I change my permalink structure to costume /%postname%

3. I make sure that I change the home button to my KW and make sure that my banner links to my site and has my KW in the alt tag.

4. I add a cache plugin called quick cache to help page load speeds.

5. I make the contact page, privacy policy page, ect no follow using a plugin called Ultimate Noindex Nofollow Tool II

6. I use a plugin called SEO SearchTerms Tagging 2 which basically makes links using the anchors of incoming search terms. I personally only use the search terms that are most popular.

7. I remove any other links that appear on my WP theme like links to the theme homepage or wordpress.org

8. And of course I add unique, well written, kw rich (not stuffed) articles to my site.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head but like I said, I'm no on site SEO expert, so please feel free to chime in.

Im very glad you created this thread because it is what exacly I need right now!

I read alot in BHW forums, google and ebook's but it's really hard to understand how to corectly do OP SEO because there is so much opinions what to do what not to do and you don't know who is right.

I have few questions.. why do you make contact, privacy policy no-follow?

By the way now im thinking about adding first article to my money site and how many LSI keywords I should request writter to include to artcile

Because you do not need link juice leaking to those useless pages

I have no idea, I only add LSIs that are worth a damn, I would suggest to keep it as natural as possible, just don't stuff the articles. The small amount of benefit that will be gained by using LSI KWs will be lost on poor content IMHO.

For the most part yes

and how about linking to authority sites wouldn't be nice also? and avoid using too much java scripts.

Actually I have tried this, linking to authority sites, and have had mixed results. What I like to do is link out when it works well with my content.

Good list so far! I never even thought about making my contact/about pages nofollow. I will definitely try that out.

Another thing I always do is install the link juice keeper plugin.

I would randomly get crawler 404/page not found errors in goog WMT from other places linking to my site with incorrect and or misspelled urls so I got this plugin that redirects any 404s to your main page. I also like this because, as I'm sure you know, until you have posts and comments, the /feed and /comments, and a couple other places end up as 404s.

just a quick add-on. try to interlink each of your post with the keyword as the anchor text. also use your home page keyword as anchor text in every posts. if you don't want to bother with it, i've got two recommended free plugin: yoast breadcrumb and autolink and related post. this will make the spider a whole lot more easier to crawl ur site

How about H1 Tags?

I dont know what will I do on homepage, Blog Home Title contains h1 tags and also the post title contains the h1 tag too..

Traffic travis show tha my page have too much h1 tags..

Do not forget to use bold and italics efect on your thourougly spreaded keyword in your article. That is one thing that contributes to on page seo and another one would be adding images with alt tag as keyword and adding a video if possible.

HADAKUMULLAH

1. nofollow is not that great or required for this, but noindex is good way to go. I prefer careful content/tag/category planning though and unique descriptions for them. Also I think noindex/nofollow on category pages is very very bad if you use categories properly (only have a few descriptive ones to organize content).

4. Is it better in any way than W3C Cache or WP-Cache? I should check it out.

5. I prefer to leave them ******** from homepage but nofollow them from every other page.

6. SEO SearchTerms Tagging 2 - not a good idea in my opinion, even potentially problematic.

8. And I also suggest linking to other posts/pages from within the content.

One more extra point from me: If site is fresh and gets little traffic, I post comments on my own site at the same time as I build strong links. Google loves pages that get lots and lots of comments.

I do this too! Whenever I'm out somewhere I check my phone to see if there is unsecured WIFI. If there is I connect to it and go commenting on some of my sites. I of course use new names every time and the reason I do it from wifi with my phone is so that all the comments are from different IP addresses. IDK if goog can determine that, but it makes me feel safer about doing it.
