no offense, but wtf, $10? I just emptied my paypal account mate... imagine yourself in this situation... well, if that was all that you could transfer, atleast try not to mention the amount. you ain't doing charity bro, you are helping out a fellow member here, and we are trying to surprise him. If it was me, I wouldn't like to find someone who says he has "dropped $10" when I read this thread.

My heart goes out to OldenStyleHats. He's a great guy and it is a shame this happened.

This may be inappropriate (and if so kindly delete), but I'd like to point out that this is can be entirely blamed on the American Healthcare system. If I have anything (from a cold to a malignant tumor) here in the Netherlands (or Britain; or Sweden; or Finland), I call a doctor and I don't even get a word from my Health Insurance, and it's the standard one. (which is obligatory) I think it's sick and disgusting that these idiots in Parlement there cause this and similar events to happen on daily basis.

Once again, my heart goes out to Olden, and I hope he will be able to pull through.

wow. you make it seem as if everyone is a millionaire. not everyone will be able to donate as much as you.

i am sure olden will be grateful with whatever amount a member donates. it's the thought that counts bro.

This is unfortunate news. I hope his surgery is successful and everything works out... will be donating as well, and I think everyone else should.

Guys when you donate make sure you send the payment as "personal"/"gift" this way gaypal won't deduct the fees from the transaction.

Heres hoping for pain releif and a miracle from the insurance company!

First, more than willing to help "family". Would rather give to someone who has given so much than the ungrateful Haitians who are complaining because arrogant Americans are not doing enough, fast enough.

Second, all the hospitals that I know of will work with him even if his insurance has canceled on him. They have a financial department that will arrange for him to make payments. It's standard procedure. If he's in a non-profit hospital then they will also forgive much of the debt. The biggest problem is the surgeons who will charge him out the butt for coming by and seeing him. That's about $1000 or more a "consultation". I personally don't have health insurance and pay as I go. Not really a big deal. I've never had any problems with hospitals taking payments.

Third, I'm not too sure about sending him money without his knowledge. Nice gesture. However we all know how Paypal is and how they could suddenly freeze his account. Which means they have our money and it doesn't get to where it needs to get to. Then he would have to deal with six months of hassle to access what we tried to give him. Much better to set up an account at your bank and have people donate directly to it. This can all be done online and banks are set up for this type of thing.

Fourth, chances are pretty good that he can get the decision reversed. I run into this a lot with my work with the disabled. And, we almost always get it reversed. Yes, it's a pain in the butt to do it but it can be done. The insurance companies just know that most people will give up and won't bother. But if you're persistent then you can get it reversed. Attorney's are useless in this situation.

Prayers and thoughts to go to our fellow family member who is need of our help.

P.S. Let's leave politics out of this. If our health care system was so bad then we'd be running to Canada, Mexico and the UK for health care. Instead they're running here. Our family member is here and political comments won't help. JMO

Regardless of the US hospital he is at, no hospital forces you to pay up front, most have payment plans based on your yearly earnings... A friend of mine in Long Island went through this, 50k bill (wife had complications delivering the baby) he is still paying for it... self employed etc...

The tunnel is not so dark, he may not be aware of this, but i doubt anyone will take his house, his main concern has got to be getting better first... the rest is just 1 day at a time...

People give what they have, I don't have funds right now, but 1 dollar is better than nothing. And I hink, without knowing, that OldenstyleHats will appreciate every dollar as it shows the support of the BHW forum.

Although 100$ may be better than 10$, 10$ is still better than nothing. And when people give their hardearned money to him I don't think anybody should complain about the amaunt, but rather thank him for the effort.

And what if he needs that money to feed his family?

I dont believe this carma-thing at its fullest end because no one can explain me how a child can be murdered for carma... Thats nonsense. And even if the child would have done harm in a earlier live it doesnt know anything about. So another person is suffering for another person.
So carma is for me partly the fear of the fate and partly true because the way you live will come back to you. But not in every case. OSH surely cant tell anyone that he did something that leads now to this situation.
