I am quite disturbed by the part of his post where he says he has spent 26.5 years in front of a computer and only knows people online.
That should be a lesson to all of us here. Making money is fine, just don't sacrifice your life for it. Money doesn't cry for you.

People give what they can afford. Whether it be $1.00 or $10.00. $10.00 is better than $0.00. He didnt have to donate anything.
Not everyone has a money tree growing in there back yard...I surely dont anyway!
Hope he gets better soon!!

Arguing the merits of this donation thing is - odd.
Lets put it this way. Olden is a dear friend and I would fly to see him in the hospital if we only knew which one it was. However Olden was worse than Harro when it comes to hiding his identity due to the sensitivity of his work. As such NO one knows enough information to be able to find him. We can't call to offer a shoulder. We can't send packages or gifts or something to make him feel better. It breaks our hearts that we can't do anything to help him. The only thing we thought we could do was a donation system. To show him that the friends and family he's established here are there for him - whether he knows it right now or not. That we're here to help - whether he asks or not. And we're just...trying. If you don't wish to donate no problem at all. We appreciate your kind words and prayers for him.
Whether someone has half a mil in the bank account or several million, my reaction would be 100% the same. Its not the dollar figure that matters - its the thoughts and feelings behind it.

I used to work in sales and marketing for a fortune 500 Insurance company.
It was common practice for the hospitals to charge a patient without insurance 2-5 times what they would charge someone that had insurance. They look at like the majority of people will skip out on the bill and charge more up front to recoup what they statistically expect to lose on the backend.
I have seen cases where the hospital charged $250K VS. $50k and the guy with insurance.
Secondly, they only have to have you in stable condition, then they can kick you out. Again, they only have to stabilize your condition, then they transfer you. The amount of people that die in the US alone in those types of hospital transfers is easily 20,000 + a year.
It is some really sad messed up shit.
Insurance Companies=Hospital Corporations (Yes, majority are)=Pharmaceutical Companies= all equally bad, and all a menace to society.

There is one thing that I know for sure. Olden has NOT wasted his life in front of a screen. He has helped THOUSANDS of people, including myself. He has contributed and made tons of peoples lives better. I hope he gets better and I will donate once this deposit clears.

im in no financial state to be donating alot, but in a group the size of BHW, theres no reason each of us cant donate even 10 dollars. Think of the impact this would have on helping him and taking the stress off of him. Like I said, I will be sending at least $10 over now, and as I can, I will send more. I personally have never even talked to Olden, or even used any of his methods, but this is a community to help each other make money, as well as helping those in legitamate need. Sure hope he gets better soon! Please keep us updated Harro.

Just to respond to the views expressed earlier about the US health care system, as convenient it may be for some to have automatic coverage extended to them in any situation, the voluntary insurance situation we have here is more convenient for those who respect liberty.
Whatever the problem is, having the state rob Peter to pay for Paul's health services is not the answer. The governmental controls and subsidies overlaying medical care is what has driven up the costs, creating the false scarcities and harsh admin decisions shown in oldenstylehats' situation.

Tygrus made a good point in that we need to keep the big picture in mind and not lose perspective on what really matters in this world. I was affected by the comment Olden made as well Tygrus.
I was in a similar situation medically as Olden a few years ago and know that it would have touched me deeply to see this kind of outpouring of support from an online community. This support could be just what he needs to stay strong and keep his head held high.

Sorry but I think this comment is unfair. You have no idea of the persons financial standing and what THEY are going through personally. No one here should be GUILT led into emptying their bank account, but give what they can just to show they cared and is thankful. Nothing to do with AMOUNT that has no relation in INTENT.
I myself have just "emptied" this months funds on Haiti, so i will come back on this next month.
Pay it forward guys and gals. I am sure if you think real hard, you will recall someone, somewhere along your life who has jumped in and helped you out. I remember once when I was trying to help my husband move some heavy furniture from a rental and this guy came up off the street and helped us empty the entire place. He wouldn't take a dime from us. When my next rents come in I am going to give the money we tried to pay that guy to olden. Think about how you have been blessed and the next step will come naturally.
I have donated to Haiti and I will be donating for Olden also. I'm very touched to see so much pain going on in the world today and I believe that this information should spread beyond BlackHatWorld. I'm sure this community has influenced other communities as well and any who hear of this will be motivated to help out. God Bless all of you for remembering that we're all human beings and what is really important. People so often tend to forget.

thats why i`m glad to live in holland. everybody is insured always. even if you don`t pay the insurance can`t kick you out..
they eventualy will come after you for the amount you are behind in payments so everybody eventualy has to pay his insurance fee. but a insurance company can`t present you with the hospital bill, EVER!!
here health insurance is regarded as one of the the things no one can live without, so insurance company`s are bound by law to accept anyone who applys and are obligated to pay for you, even if you havent payd your insurance for a year.
anyway, i made a nice donation for his recovery andi hope everything will be ok.
i can`t imagine how it must feel to be really ill and be able to go to a hospital to get help because you just can`t afford to pay the overpriced bill in the end..
i think everybody has a right to medical help, no matter what.
