Oldenstylehats Situation MUST READ!

I've read this forum for a long time before I decided to register here, and even more afterwards.

Oldenstylehats posts are probably among the first posts that I have ever read and I always respected him (and others) for the amazing share of information that he placed on the table for free just with the intention of helping our community, so my sincere votes of a steady recovery and a good resolution to his insurance situation is the least of what I can say here.

But I can't help not bringing another subject, I can't wrap my mind around of the fact that one of the most enlightened minds on this forum to be thrown into a situation of financial crisis, I mean, even considering that he might be in a situation where his insurance has dropped him out and that he can possible have to personally ending up paying up medical expenses of up to 6 figures as mentioned above.

How is it possible that such an event would affect his financial personal life, obviously no one knows how much money is he making, but when you take into consideration that information posted by himself here is what is helping others making 100k+ a year, how is it possible for him to be making any less than this?

And in my personally opinion, if he is making merely 100k a year, he should have absolutely no trouble paying his medical expenses.

I'm posting this merely as an inquisitive reply, I'm not questioning or flaming what has been said before me, I'm only looking for a sincere and honest answer to what I'm asking here.

He didnt ask for donations or help i created the thread as a suprise and gesture to help him in some way. Thousands of places in the world have free medical expenses. He paid insurance for the reason to get it now they screwed him over.
Whether he earns 6figures+ a year is not really important. It should be free. I would hate to be ill and having to worry about paying 6figures for what should be free worldwide.

This is one of the worst things I've read in recent memory. Whether he knows it or not, Olden has done a great deal to get me going in IM again after some struggles I had. I will certainly be sending what I can to help him out.

I hear what you're saying, but out-of-pocket hospital bills can reach staggering amounts pretty quickly. (My father was hospitalized for a month a few years ago. He's uninsured and wound up owing close to a million dollars. Not that he'll ever afford to pay that, hence the lack of insurance in the first place. Ironic, isn't it?) Even if he's making bank, he can't work in his present condition. Passive income or not, the funds are sure to dry up. The hospital, doctors, anyone who says "how are you feeling" are all going to send him a bill, you can bet on that. His savings will be grabbed up with the quickness. Forget any medicaid / medicare, etc. If you make $100 a month, before taxes, that's too much to qualify.

I'm sure if it were just a case of a broken leg or hatchet wound, he'd be alright. Unfortunately his problems are pretty severe and are going to require a lot of time and attention in the hospital. Again, Godspeed on your recovery Oldenstylehats!

Never ever ever set foot on American soil! Heroin addicts can get free needles, but that's about it.

yeah our donations wont matter to his bill. especially without insurance..... shit, I've been homeless for the last month. It's not so bad, you get to go to shelter's where they feed you and etc. They help you look for real work and etc.

Still trying to figure out the right method with IE, making the right twist to make more than $5 a day.... thank god I have my laptop.... been about 2 weeks since I got the laptop, website launched, not much traffic :-(

If this wasn't my situation, I'd be up for donating a little bit also.

yeah, but at least i know what i'm in for...knowing i have to pay for stuff out of pocket

but what makes oldenstyle's situation so horrible, is thinking that you're covered in case of an emergency, only to have your health insurance company (that' you've been making payments too for months) pull the rug under your right when you need them most, just because of a technicality.

olden's probably made thousands of dollars in insurance premium payments.....but now that he's in need of medical care, they find some stupid excuse to drop him.

i say they should refund him 100% his insurance premiums....but then, there's no law that makes insurance companies liable for anything....

many people don't know that hospitals offer mega discounts to people w/out insurance. many hospitals offer financial assistance to those in need....

it's not much, but it's somethng

Olden needs to focus on getting better....and the worry about the bills later...i know it's a hard thing to do, but the hospital by law can't kick him out because of an inablity to pay. so he should use this time to get better....then focus on the bills later.

I completely agree with you on the part where you say that it should be free everywhere, but what I was addressing wasn't that, it was the fact that you mentioned on the OP, when you mentioned that he could end up needing to sell his house in order to pay the expenses of this medical treatment that he he is currently going through.

That was the statement that I can't fully understand, even if he ends up paying 100% of his medical treatment, he should still should earn enough to cover it.

I personally estimate, with the sort of information that he posts here, that he should be making anything between $300k to $600k a year, perhaps even more than $1mil, in the event of him ending up paying expenses to the sum of $100k-$150k, (and this value is already very overrated, even for the US which is known for their ridicule highly expensive medical treatments, much more expensive in fact that Western Europe and Japan where you get pay far less for the same or even higher medical quality), but the matter at hand is, even if he ends up paying $150k, it can be a considerable blow in his financial life, but nothing as severe as something that requires him to sell his place.

Luckily, health insurance is totally free and unlimited in UK - money happily sent.:)

I'm sorry to hear about your situation, but I don't think trying to foot Oldenstylehats's hospital bill is quite the point. To put it in perspective: If your house and everything in it burned to the ground and the insurance company denied your claim for whatever reason, wouldn't it be really nice if someone from a group you belonged to but didn't know personally said "Hey, I don't know what to say, but here's ten bucks to help you out. Good luck."

Ten bucks won't buy you a new house, get you an apartment or even a low-class hotel room. But it's still a kind gesture. And I'm sure it could be put to good use somehow!
 
I hate private healt insurances for such behaviour. In germany we have such companies since some years and what happens? The money from the good payers are out of the state health system because rich people can spare money at private companies. It tends to go into the us-way.
And at the end everyone is fucked by them. If your sick you dont find a private insurance. If you paid and didnt said a word about a little illness your fucked like oldenstylehats. And if your get unemployment you need to pay more than every other person and have less to live because they are so greedy.

Hope this private health companies die because they play with the health of the people. Thats one of the most shadiest thing someone can do.

To understand this right... he is a dialysis-patient? And need a new kidney? That will be some money needed. I hope enough money comes together but he can be lucky because not everyone has a house that can be sold. So he has chances or am I wrong?
 
I don't know him personally but he was very easy to email and helpful when I bought a few of his products. Will send some paypal now to help out.

This is one of my worst concerns, I don't have any myself and I know it's horrible choice on my part. Maybe can start a thread later, those that understand all that know what insurance to get. Get some info together so others don't end up in this spot.

Holy shit. I don't know Oldenstylehats in a personal way, but I know that he ment a great deal to very many people here, and his contributions is just amazing. He seems like a great guys and it's such a shame that this kind of events hit these kind of people. The world is a mysterious place...

I hope there will be collected enough money to help him with the house issue. This may not seem positive right now, and the situation most definatley isn't. But later, maybe you can enjoy your life to the fullest because you know what you have.

I'll donate as soon as I get funds in my paypal.

A few months ago I had to go to the emergency room for extreme pain, and now have a pre-existing condition for which I need surgery for and will never be able to get it.

For those of you that live in the USA, work for yourself, and are healthy, PLEASE take my advice and go get medical insurance NOW, as much as you can afford, and make it a priority to pay it.

I know this isn't related but I wanted to add that in there.

Get well soon oldenstyle. I have some information I have researched on this topic recently that I would like to pass on to Harro or Olden's close friends, I'm going to pm you Harro.
