Old blog versus a new blog

So I wanted to start my own blog but just as I was going to start a friend of mine offered me his blog (very similar) but a bit older has some visitors(<100) however and needs some work on SEO and content. He no longer has time or motivation to maintain it.

Should I start fresh or grab his blog and work on it ?

P.S. not trying to skip work I plan on putting equally high effort in both

You can grab that offer and just adjust the SEO if you have so much time at hand. Then, post new ones to keep up with the rhythm. What's the niche, btw?

That's a great niche. You just really need to optimize the old articles and write new ones, but patience is a talent. Best of luck to you!

Grab the old one which is similar to you, and start your work on fixing the articles as well as the SEO works to make it simpler instead of developing the newer one.

Hi
It is a good idea to work on an old blog as long as the blog has a good quality. But as mentioned, refresh the content, work on the SEO and of course don't forget to publish fresh blog posts at the same time.

If it is free, then by all means grab it. If it is not free then you need to see whether the domain has potential or not.
I personally like a catchy domain name, and also a short one, or if you are trying to sell something, an EMD would be great.
So if the domain name doesn't match your interest or is not a good one, I prefer starting a new domain instead.
