Okay so we all know big G make a change in the algo recently.

This means... articles directories suck... although content is still important.
Blog comments suck. Forum Profiles and posts suck.

    Web 2.0 sucks.

This in turn means pyramids and wheels are also decreased heavily in value -.-

So what's left to really rank us well?

Twitter retweets? Facebook links on many ppl's pages or groups?

High PR - relative sites - not articles or forums? How do we find some that will post our links?

Anybody got suggestions? I'm kinda stumped at this point...

I will bribe with a thanks! Hahaha

Certainly All SEO tecnics are less and less useful with the time, Google wants good content in the first positions...

But the problem is that all SEO are playing with the same rules! All our efforts are less valuable, so the competency remains almost the same...
Still the good work and try to larn the new technicas that appear on this forum and the bussiness will be ok!

Google is saying they have done away with techniques. Far from it. As long as Google's rankings are algorithm based there will be a way to play them. Inbound links will play a major role in the algorithm for the foreseeable future, and they can't simply devalue links from everywhere and maintain their algorithm. I still say the best answer is to just keep piling on links from EVERYWHERE. Don't focus solely on one source of backlinks, just keep dumping them everywhere, and obviously have them tied in with good content. Look for quality, related links, not volume.

The people who are feeling the heat right now are the ones who never brought any quality along with their work in the first place.

Before I even remotely start to believe what you're saying about Google no longer giving any weight to article directories, social bookmarking sites, etc., etc, as no longer effective off page SEO techniques, I'll need to see some type of 3rd party supporting document that supports your otherwise personal assumption of the Google algorithms that apparently have come down the pipeline in the last few days. :D

All of the above, and use the methods in moderation. Play with the velocity at which you blast links. If all you're doing is building link wheel after link wheel, or blasting the shit out of your page with blog comments, it's going to be pretty obvious what you're doing if anyone cares to take a look.

Limiting yourself to one method is just leaving you open to lose everything. Google can't really put a negative score on any particular method, because that in itself would open opportunities for malicious use. The best they can really do is devalue the source or method for acquiring backlinks in the algorithm. To say "anyone who is using a large number of forum profile backlinks will be de-indexed" just means people will start using tools like Xrumer as attack weapons as opposed to methods of building.

I've always stood by spreading things around, and making your links look natural. Ignore as much of the SEO hype as you can and just keep plugging away. When I use Scrapebox, I look for relevant posts, I write an actual comment on the article content. I exchange links with relevant websites, SB can be really handy for finding blogs that focus on closely related subject matter. I throw the odd link wheel in. When I get bored I'll write a quick article and throw it up on a random web2.0 site somewhere with a one way backlink and never look at it again. I'll do small blasts here and there every few days. Things an average internet user might do.

Page relevance from inbound backlinks and unique content on both your site and the backlinking site are hugely important and will remain important. Sometimes less is more. So above all, make sure you're putting your links in the right places.

Then there's all the places that people fail to ever even consider dropping backlinks. PAD files, PDFs, etc etc. There's a lot more going on than just blog commenting/forum spam...

Give me your lists so I'll blast all of my competitors!

(I'm kidding, of course. It doesn't work that way.)

Identify the links that are hard to get and go for them. I already wrote somewhere that prime candidates are editorial links and links on respected webshops. As to how, that's for everyone to figure out for themselves, aka secret methods.

    http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2011/02/finding-more-high-quality-sites-in.html

"But in the last day or so we launched a pretty big algorithmic improvement to our ranking?a change that noticeably impacts 11.8% of our queries?and we wanted to let people know what?s going on. This update is designed to reduce rankings for low-quality sites?sites which are low-value add for users, copy content from other websites or sites that are just not very useful."

It's kind of funny that so many people around here seem to think Google is winning, when by most industry reports I've read recently, Google is losing the battle against SEOs who are out to game the system. People are starting to lose confidence in Google's algorithm based approach to ranking. Spend some time on TechCrunch or other tech industry blogs and news sources. Everyone is starting to talk social search, and while Google is dabbling in this now, the market is open for someone to swoop in and take the pole position in the race for social search dominance. Facebook perhaps. That suggestion has been going around for a while now though. Regardless, there will always be a way to game the system for those with a devoted interest in doing so. The metrics available to search engines for analysis are limited, they can't shut them all down.

exactly, people seem to jump outta there skin every time google makes a change, just for google to turn around and do the opposite to the change months or even weeks later, they have yet to understand the game which is being played here.

well kind of... but not really. I already knew effectiveness of standard seo went down. super whitehat methods are still decently strong, and social media is going to be very effective. but what other techniques are there?

also how much does having an outbound link to an authority site affect my site?

Article directories still work. My site has came back from a week of dance and I had 2 keywords unaffected by the dance holding number 1 all the way: the ones that had article directory links.
