You can start these immediately, as an alternative to dealing with the cops. Hopefully she'll get tired of it and give you your car back.

My neighbour had the same thing happen. The police advised him that as he had given the keys to the driver ( a friend???) technically it was not stolen. He was told he had to wait a month. The driver was caught hooning in the car and it was confiscated by the police and impounded for one month. My neighbour then had to pay $800 dollars to reclaim it.
Don't lie to the police. Don't imagine for one minute it won't catch up with you and if it does your insurance will definitely go down the toilet. At the moment technically your car has not been stolen....the police told you so.
Try to find the girl and get your car back. If not be patient for the month to pass.
Yes its freaky but its been a valuable lesson.

At this point, the best option you have would be to spend a couple hundred dollars and hire a private investigator to do a skip trace. And attempt to locate the vehicle.

You at the right place, now that you will learn IM at the finest, make her famous as a thief,
1: write articles and send it to a local newspaper on her city.
2:Get all her friends from her facebook on board and tell m she is a car jacker.
3:Make a ebook about car theft prevention and sell it online or make a group on facebook. Make sure her picture is in the ebook and mail it to her parents!

Yeah i am trying to get a private investigator today after I go to the police station.
I never told the cops I gave anyone my keys , I told them I woke up and my car was
gone and my roomates say her drive off in it.

p.s thanks for all the good advice and the berating by others yeah i have learned a
lesson but I have know this person for a while so this was totally blind side but i
know I screwed up. Hind sight is 20-20 right ?

funny you should say something about make some sites I have one in beta right now:
anewluv ; I can't post the url since i still don't have enough posts though

I am not a toal loser like everyone seems to think, I am a c# and
silverlight/MVC2/.NET programmer I just don't have the time to run around
and deal with these kinds of things since I consult full time and train so
I am pretty busy although its no excuse.

Thats why I love these forums so many great minds here and we all make mistakes
some more stupid than others huh....

you've known this person for a long while, but yet you cant figure out who it is or where to find her?

sorry to say, but i think i am glad you no longer have a car, because the roads are now much safer for other drivers without idiots on the road

I don't know where she lives now she moved

its my job to track people down anyways thats what the cops get paid to do y'know

I'm sure you have never made any mistakes in your life

If you've never been inside her she shouldn't be in your drivers seat. But how can you give someone your car and not know where they live? There's an E-Book somewhere about how to say No. Go read it.

I'm not looking for sympathy or flames either way, just advice on how to proceed going forward.

you had a party, she was invited. someone obviously knows some kind of information about this person, she was told about it somehow, and she showed up. im sure there are mutual friends also who know more information if you dont have a new address. surely you have a phone number or noticed who she came to the party with.

there are enough clues staring you right in the face to be able to figure this one out. if you cant, then as i said earlier, its probably for the best that you are no longer on the roads.

I have a phone number but how do I use it to track the person, its not like I'm the FBI or something with cell phone triangulation

I lost my iPhone at Six Flags theme park a few months ago... found calls being made and also saw a GPS trace of the phone leaving the employee parking lot, down the freeway, then offline but they took my sim card and were using it for free service, I saw the phone #'s being called...etc, did a reverse phone lookup for $30 and got the HOME ADDRESS including moms name, dads name, sisters name, brothers name and age for everyone....etc then called that # and told them I want the iPhone back within 24hrs or Im coming to your home and umm "not alone" (dont make criminal threats) and the next day my phone was mailed to my mail drop location good as new.

Thanks man, I am buying a reverse phone lookup right now - Thanks !

dude... if you know her name, or even if she was at some party you were at.. I GUARANTEE YOU can find out someone who knows where she lives lmao!!!

if you have her name, i could probably find where she lives just by using google.

**** the cops man, i would deal with this myself and go to the bitches house and get my ****ing car back.. bring a gun or a knife just in case someone tries to jack you ;)

Wow, this is a messed up thread. I can not believe you got your car stolen.

First piece of advice, if you are doing this for the insurance, which you kind of lead on that you were. I highly suggest you rethink it, because you have not thought it through far enough, and you will fail and get in trouble.

Second, if this is legit and she took your car, I will be sending you a PM. I have had to deal with this kind of thing a couple times before. "my past life" and I will give you to my best knowledge what I think you should do. I never got the cops involved, because I could not let the cops in my life, so I took care of it my self.

I will admit I have never had a car stolen by a girl, that is pretty ballsy. Bitches think they can get away with anything.

What country do you live in? That is my only question. If you are in the USA, I will help you out, and we can probably have this taken care of within a few hours. If not, I will give you my advice, but I have never been out of the country and don't even pretend to know anything about the laws and police in other countries.

this never happened

Anyways.. just file a report saying your car was stolen. You dont even know who stole it but you have an idea. Dont mention the keys or giving anyone access to the car .. that wont matter anyways since you def did not agree to lend them the car long term. Call your insurance and get the highest coverage possible right away. ( its not insurance fraud if you dont know who ****ed your car up etc )

You have to file a police report so it shows up on record you are not part of the "crime" and are trying everything you can to get your property back.

wouldnt suprise me if they crashed the car and just left it somewhere.

It's obvious that the girl is trying to screw you over, so screw her over. Call the cops and say she must have stole your keys at the party, and took your car.

It's your word against hers. Only she is driving your car, which makes it grand theft auto. A felony. Put that bitch in jail.

Also, you'll be able to sue her in civil court for "damages" done to you (missed work), the car, and of course punative damages (hopefully).

These suggestions about bringing a gun, etc. will only make things worse. I promise.

And PS: I'm not sure what type of people you're hanging out with, but it doesn't sound like you're hanging out with the "good" crowd. Just sayin'
