best of luck buddy. at this point i don't think you are in a position to invest what little money you have. i would try and get some kind of "real" job for now and focus on im later when you have a place to live. you have too much to risk right now with something that is not guaranteed money as is much the case with im. i hope it works out for you.
Desperation can force you towards success. Happens to a lot of people since there is no alternative to success when you are in a desperate situation.
Wishing you the best of luck.
Also, Go to reddit and post in the relevant subreddit(http://www.reddit.com/r/nyc/ )etc. There are lots of good people there who will help you with advice/accomodation.
It's been over a year and I wanted to give an update. I've been working very hard in real life full time at a shoe store located in Manhattan while also going to school full time. The owner of the store understood my situation as he used to be homeless as well and let me stay in the spare room of his apartment for a few hundred a month. IM has been only a minor supplement so I can enjoy myself once in a while. I currently have a 3.9 GPA as a chemistry major. I was accepted to St John's University for their PharmD program and will be attending next Fall as I am graduating early.
I want to thank everyone for their support while I was going through a tough time.
