It seems Google is increasingly trying to push out marketers, who they view as middlemen. Anyone who runs AdSense sites should be worried about that.

We all know that they have started cracking down on affiliates advertising via AdWords.

Their purchase of ITA was HUGE, and am surprised a bigger deal wasn't raised about it. Gradually they can push out competitors like Expedia and Kayak out of business. They have already been doing that to Yelp. If they enter ticketsales they can push out Ticketmaster (actually I wouldn't mind Ticketmaster having a legitimate competitor, their high fees suck).

Google is like a hungry fat kid who is trying to get his hands into EVERY cookie jar, and can never get enough.

That is one of the reasons why I love Facebook and Apple - they are building walled gardens that Google can't get their grabby paws on, and that pisses Google off. They spin some bullshit PR about "information being free", except what they actually mean is they want that information to be free as long as Google controls it.

Don't be evil? Give me a f-ing break.

Not sure what you're trying to say by this, IamNRE. Google has definitely played both sides of this issue, depending on how it was advantageous to them. Just look at their joint proposed framework with Verizon in 2010.

Just one more reason not to drink their PR Kool-aid.

True, its called building a monopoly! And no, what Google is doing is not new. They have been plotting against the competition since the dough started rolling in. Because they are the De Facto number one search engine, pretty much in the world, they make up rules that give them an advantage over the competition, advertisers, publishers and control over the majority of Internet search traffic.

And please note; anyone who thinks Google has created and/or maintains a level playing field, you are living in a fool's paradise! Also, if you believe the words of Matt Cutts as the SEO gospel, once again, you are living in a fool's paradise. Google is in this for one thing; to become the richest and biggest company world wide. That means they are going to have to crush other companies and people to accomplish their objective. Consequently, they are constantly tilting the playing field, (e.g., AdWords, AdSense, Google +, Gmail, etc.) in their favor.

That's why you have to fight fire with fire!

    BH all the way!!! :pirate:

No joke man, the more I get to know the goog the less I like them. I found on youtube yesterday a London Symphony Orchestra performance. Of course guess what, google ads all over it. Now if you put the London Symphony Orchestra's dvd performance on your website and covered it with ads what would happen? You'd get your pants sued off. This is the real reason google hates SOPA, because they are making so much money of other people's creativity. If you go to report a copyright violation you get all this stuff about YOU being in trouble for falsely reporting..

They are such a crappy company, just look at their products:

-Maps, its a copy of Mapquest

-Android, its a rip off of iOS and Apple (not to mention the Carrier IQ stuff)

-Google Plus, a rip off of facebook

Even their search is just a rip off of earlier search engines.

The truth is they have done nothing original, and continually steal intellectual property. They are screwing small businesses too. Now when I hear "don't be evil" it seems like some kind of sick joke.

Naw man, can't agree with you on that.

GoogleMaps was much better than Mapquest when it came out.
Can't comment on Android, as I use iOS, but phones I've seen it looks decent.
G+ has some nice features, I don't use it much myself, but it has some great photographer communities, etc

Their search was MILES ahead of any competition when it came out. Do you even remember what Yahoo/Alatvista etc were? You couldn't find anything, it was complete garbage.

Both Chrome and Gmail are exponentially better than any alternatives (Chrome - speed/simplicity, Gmail - spam blocking/simplicity/search).

My point was largely about Google spreading themselves out too much into industries they shouldn't be in. Everybody copies somebody else, Facebook wasn't original social network either, they just did it better than anyone else.

Google=best search, browser and email, they should just stick to that.
