Hello I was study one of my competitor's backlink and I found a lot of backlinks on google... but all of them are not hyperlinked, just text url...
Maybe he has an hidden PBN, i don't know... but just in case does Not hyperlinked still pass juice? Because he is in the top spot for my KW

Don't know if there is any proof of it, but I assume it passes some value. I thought about doing an experiment of using only text URL with no links and see if it moves.

If they are not hyperlinked, how did you find them ??

Difficult as it is to answer that question, the general consensus is that it doesn't pass authority:

Having said that, please take into account co-occurrence/co-citation: (non clickable URL is still a mention)

Both links are from 2012? Very fresh content...

As for passing link juice, I can't see how a non-clickable link would pass any value...Surely it would be seen as normal text and as a result useless?

I call those mentions.

As to link juice that is not there as there is no juice because there is no link.

As to affecting the authority of the site I think there is some low level value as Google sees the content if the site is able to be crawled.

I would not put much energy into a mention myself but I would not kick them to the curb either.

Yes, they do carry a little weight.

Proof are local citations/directories that are often non-hyperlinks. However, even with these alone you can rank for easy keywords.

Even if you won't see any rank increase for tougher keywords, they definitely help with indexing as googlebot follows them.

Here is a quote from John Mueller:

We use those kinds of links to try to discover new content. So for instance if we see that someone has been writing about a new domain name and we can recognize that as a domain name in the text even without a normal HTML link there, then that is something where we will try to pick that domain name up, try to crawl it and index it and see if that is something worth including in our search results.”

“Sometimes it happens that we pick up a whole URL like that. Sometimes someone will try to shorter a URL with just a ‘…’ in between and we try to crawl that URL so we get it wrong. But our goal here isn’t necessarily to pass any pagerank, which we don’t do with those kinds of links. But rather discover new URLs that we haven’t seen before. And if we see someone write about a URL that we haven’t seen before we will pick that up and try to index that for search.

Hope this helps a bit.

makes you look like a big brand when you get these, not something to put effort into but still good to have

OP's Query didn't Deserve Freshness. Authority was a more important factor :D

Completely agree. On sites that don't allow links of any kind I've dropped mentions. I especially LOVE to do this on competitors authority links if they leave comments open. I have zero proof it passes anything, but I know it gets an occasional visitor.

If i recall correctly, i read or watch somewhere mentioned by Google that they are trying to calculate authority of a brand without focusing too much on backlinks.

It wasn't official, Google representative mentioned that they were still working on it, but who knows :D.

Useless imo except for citations. I work for a seo company as a f/t job and my boss actually had someone write an article but mentioning the clients brand with no link.

Call it crazy but we hardly build links since it's not very competitive. The company is so paranoid of getting banned etc all we do is on-page and build new pages but the pages do rank because its not competitive and local.

I just think its such a waste of time to write an article with no link on some crappy web 2.0 because the boss is paranoid.

I'm not the decision maker so we gotta do what we gotta do. I just can't wait to quit.

For citations its ok but making a co worker write something on a low quality site (like Kinja or Svtle or some other crappy web 2.0) just to show the client we did "some work" with no link. Just lol

In other words: forget them and get some real links.

Like BTB said, it counts as a mention of your site in regular text. It does not pass pagerank but it does add to the LSI, your website getting mentioned next to some subject will probably tell Google your site is related to that subject.
