Nord VPN Compromised

One of the most popular VPN services on the net, even a BST holder here has been compromised.

Unfortunately one of their servers got compromised, and a encryption key was leaked.

Key was stolen in March in 2018, and expired in October 2018. Nord is blaming a datacenter that was hosting their servers. It is unclear what or if any information was leaked.

Yeah I know that several others were also affected. I use iPredator alot, so I hoping those services aren't able to get compromised as easily. I like using Kopimi services

There was the same discussion on a thread on r/Piracy four days ago. They shared an article from The Verge.

Quoting one of the respones:

"One server in Finland in March of 2018 was breached because someone put insecure software they weren't supposed to onto the server. Nord switches the server that users are connected to every 5 minutes so the attacked would've seen like 5 minutes worth of your browsing habits.

So, no, NordVPN isn't pwned and your data is protected. Not sure why so many people dislike Nord, they haven't indicated that they're shady in any way, shape, or form. I mean, people trust PIA and that's deadass in the USA, one of the worst offenders of over-surveillance, but it was audited and they proved they keep their words on the no logs. I'm pretty sure Nord, a Panamanian company way outside of the 14 Eyes' jurisdiction, will keep their word too. Certainly, they could double dip but that goes for literally every VPN provider and Nord isn't any less trustworthy than them.

If Nord ever actually does mess up, rail on it all you want but until it's proven that Nord is a honeypot, just leave it be. People are literally scared of using VPNs because people on here fear monger that they're worse than your ISP which couldn't be further from the truth."
