I am trying a Google slideshow/YouTube video method and I am at the part where I record my voice over playing the slideshow.

My problem is that I suck at it.
I don't really know what to say in the video.
I keep making long pauses trying to figure it out.
I stumble a lot. I'm sure you get the idea.
I tried making a script but I had trouble following that too.

It sounds terrible.
I think it should sound natural like I'm not reading from a script.
Has anyone else ever had this problem?
Sorry if this is a bad question.

Do it in a mirror and look yourself in the eye. At the root of the issue is more than likely confidence. Get to know yourself and how you look when your talking. SMILE, you really can hear a smile! Learn to laugh at/with yourself. It's a silly exercise, but that's the point. Being comfortable being outside the norm. And make sure your recording without background noise. I think it's Camtasia that has a great background noise remover. That'll remove a bad recording from the equation and allow you to focus solely on what you are recording. Instead of a script, write an outline and a list of words you might forget and put them next to your mic so you aren't looking down all the time. If you're moving your head around a lot, it'll come across on the recording as well. The biggest impact you might make is practice. When you're speaking to anyone, pay attention to how you are saying it and how they respond. Normally we never even think about it, but the first step to solving anything is knowing where your strengths and weaknesses are.

RELAX.

Doing a narrative requires you to be calm. Pretend that you are explaining to a friend.

Scripts are good, but they make you feel like you have a programmed speech.

Let the words flow of your tongue. Take a drink to take the edge off?

Its all about being comfortable, in the beginning you will find it awkward, but will soon grow into it.

So what if your first video is going to be sloppy. Put it out there. It will give you a basis to improve on.

If you say uhm and ahh a lot while improvising, do what I do:

Adopt a 1/2 second "delay" in your mind

before you open your mouth, try 'speaking' what you're about to say... in your mind

1/2 a second might seem short but when it comes to mental time, it's a LONG TIME

This helped me become a more effectives speaker

It also helps if you have a SCRIPT (even if it's just a rough bulletpoint list)

Keep at it. Practice, after all, makes perfect.

Instead of script. Just have a main point and explain naturally. Talk slower and have humour in that

Practice your lines carefully. When it comes to narration, a good trick is to have some certain 'rest' points. Apart from that, you can record sentence by sentence or paragraph by paragraph, and then mix them all together. It will make you concentrate on specific parts and be more confident. Most of the production studios do that. Becoming a good speaker takes some time.
