Nofollow really works?

Keyword Medium, Still confused.

following the thread. very interested in this given I am having pretty much the same confusion while building nonfollows

No follow links only help to drive visitors to the website, they don't harm your website.
If you guys have tested then I would like to track how on my website that how no follow links help but there is no solid proof that no follow links help in ranking on Google.

Nofollow blocks pagerank and anchor text from flowing to the linked page. While these 2 factors are important, there are many other ranking signals beyond these, and nofollow has no effect on these.

My competiton made 1000domain link to my website with nofollow. The next weeks on a google update, rank dropped over night 60%.

So? I think it matters. I can provide all the proof you need regarding my problem. Over NIGHT!
Not even now after 3-4 mounth, i don't get back more than 10% of my rank/traffic of 60% loss. I disavow them, i send report, contact, everything i can possible do, and nothing.

And i don't have any penality, manual action, spam, etc. Monitorbacklinks etc are ok.

But "Google make it right for everybody" = yeah right, he don't give a crap about people like me/us. The people witch spam have always the best rank. And people witch actully works and don't invest in google adwords, never will succed.
What Google tells and do, are 2 different things! Google "announcements" are fairy tales for people.

Don't forget that google also is a PRODUCT. And they are making money.

I use no-follow links pointed to the homepage in the early beginning stage of any money site, these links would have branded anchors only.. after few weeks those links usually makes me rank easily on the brand name and all it's variations, also I think It reduces the sandbox time for brand new fresh domains.

I know, but i've been working for 5 years on a website, every single day, min 4 hours (i love what i do); and google destroy everything (rank, traffic) over night on 1 august, from 30k to 3k traffic; it's hard not to cry and keep going when google and competion are against you.

I have a project in place (2 months old) who has only no-follow backlinks - just from strong domains like wikipedia/wordpress.org etc

I have 800 of them from 113 domains and i'm ranking position 8 for a difficult word (kwfinder says 40 and ahrefs say 31), CPC 3,5$, 3200 ms/usa

I was going to say why'd you think people sell wiki links if they are useless.

Yes, Nofollow backlink also useful for natural ranking but is the ratio will perfect you will get a better result from search engine. if you build link building then you need to make a ratio like 80% ******** and 20% no-follow backlink. if you get a no-follow backlink from High authority websites it will useful for longterm ranking.

Thanks

It does work.

I tested this years ago a while after nofollow was introduced. Brand new domain.

I hand made about 20 blog comments in government sites. All real comments, about the content, not spam.

A couple weeks later it was ranking for the name I used in the comment fields.
Can explain more about this ,I'm highly interested in part for ranking in the names used in the comments.
I'm confused.

I don't even look at if they are do or no follow anymore.

The way I see it is some link types are going to be no follow, some are going to be do follow

If you only go after the do follow then you're missing out on a lot of platforms like forums/blog comments/profiles. All these are part of links profiles for any healthy website.
