Just logged into my account to get myself a couple of new domains and i noticed they don't offer free whois anymore.

After a quick G search i found a promo who gets rid of the $1.99 they want for it now.

For the name.com guys here:

Code:
FREEWHOIS

They will now start losing business big time, free whois was the main reason I was with them and I believe there are lots like me who were there for the same reason

does it really matter? if your using vcc why care about whois?

Well that would have been helpful info to have had last week. LOL
I was kind of burnt when I registered a couple domains and found I had to pay for the private whois. I went ahead and did it cause I was ready to go and didn't want to hunt around for a promo code.

Thanks for finding that. I have a couple more domains to register for a project I'm working on. $1.99 isn't much, but it's still better if I don't have to pay it. :)

Most of my sites are whitehat. I just use some blackhat techniques to help promote and rank them. Even for whitehat sites I still don't want just anyone to look up a whois and find out who I am. It's just a privacy issue for me.

For those of you registering more than a few domains, there are much cheaper registrars out there. Most of them have a ridiculous minimum buyin to get good domain pricing (enom).

I highly recommend http://resell.biz. I've been with them a couple years now. They have no minimum buyin, offer a whitebox resell platform if you want to get into that, and have damn good prices otherwise. I pay $7.25/.com which includes free whois privacy.

Not affiliated, and not my referral link, just a super happy customer. Their support is really quick to get back to you as well.
