Homeless man finds and returns over $40,000 and doesn't receive a penny in reward? Regardless he did the right thing and would do it again in a heartbeat... How many of us would've done the same...

Just because a reward isn't mentioned, doesn't mean he won't get one. The man should get something though, for sure.
 
As someone who's been (and currently is) homeless, I can't say I would have done the same thing... I grant you, just because no reward is mentioned doesn't mean he didn't get something, but 40k? I'd have taken at -least- 10 and used it to start a new life. If I felt guilty afterwards, I'd have donated most of it to a charity. Or used it to uplift other transients out of poverty. All the same, kudos to him for following his principals. I hope they keeps him warm. >_>
 
I would have taken the 40k for myself if I was homeless. At such a condition, I don't need reputation. I need something for my living.

One answer, simply some people just don't care about money, and i guess he is happy to be homeless and enjoying true freedom in life.if he wasn't happy to be homeless he will never returned the money.maybe he was offered a reward privately and rejected it.
 
Indeed I would have take the money, but for the homeless the sin of the guy not giving him a reward will come back to him.
 
The police commissioner gave him some kind of (non monetary) award but some group set up a fund for him at least.

And for those of you that don't think returning the money to the rightful owner is the right thing to do, remember Karma's a bitch.

I've been around long enough to know that what goes around comes around ;)
 
Yeah, he's a true ediot for having principles and a solid civic education.

But in truth, nowadays, if you're honest and you don't steal or return what's not yours, you're considered an idiot by the general population. If the dude had raped an old lady while snatching her bag containing 40k $ nobody would've called him an ediot.
 
Honestly I would probably not return that money. I care primarily about my well-being, and I don't think that makes me a bad person. I returned a wallet once (gave it to a police officer), there was no cash in it but a few IDs and credit cards.

This poor guy (No pun intended) may have wished for a long time I need money, I need a better life, I need a change of life and he more then likely manifested those thoughts into a reality and then he gives it back....some people will never learn there's no "right and wrong" a lot of the people on the News were like "awww he's a good person" NO! he's F&^%$ stupid!

All he did was prove that he deserves to be in the situation he is in, sorry that seems harsh but once you separate your emotions from logic this decision will alter his life forever

Quick story - EVERYONE GETS THERE SHOT!!

There's this chick I know lives in Miami, super BAD! i mean this girl is fine as f^%%$ she wants to be a actress but currently works in a clothing store
so one day she tells me "I don't know what I'm gonna do I'm a great actress but I'll never get my shot" so I asked her has anyone ever approached her before about acting
she says "Yes! it was a famous director on vacation and he told me he would cast me" I respond SO WHAT HAPPEN!?! she say's "He wanted to sleep with me so I turned it down I want to make it the right way"

I looked directly into her face and said Sorry! you had your shot! you allowed your emotions to influence your logic now you can enjoy working at this store for the rest of your life
and think about the dumb ass decision you made!

This poor man will remain poor because he didn't know him finding the bag full of money was ment for him NOBODY! else!
He created that in his head based on his situation and then he gives it back SMGDH!

So i guess if you are a broke and homeless man wanting to be an actor and some famous director came along and offered you cash if you sleep with him.......well you are not gay and not keen on selling your body but hey, no right or wrong so go get fkd in the ass one night for (MAYBE) fame and cash right?

And wont you feel like a right idiot when you get fkd and turns out to be for (empty promises) nothing!

What I find hilarious is that most people assume that homeless people have actually "chosen" their lot. True some of them are victims of poor choices, alcohol, drugs etc. but I can tell you first hand that many are injured, mentally ill or victims of the economy. Case in point, the man who is an EDIOT for returning the money is homeless due to a debilitating illness that left him unemployable. Kind of makes it tough to live if you can't work? NO?

As I posted in another thread, I raised 4 kids and have worked hard my entire life. In the blink of an eye I acquired an autoimmune disease that knocked me out of my job of 30 years and am now on SSI. I've lost much and the streets may not be far behind.

Words to the wise: If you're young, treasure it! Try not to be too cynical and try to sympathize and empathize with others who may be less fortunate. You may be wearing their shoes one day. I never in a million years thought I would but...here I am...
